Sr. Accountant

Higginbotham is currently seeking a Sr. Accountant for the Louisville, KY office. This role will be responsible for the day-to-day internal operations of the Captive Department, and accounting team support as needed. Essential functions and tasks include performing internal accounting operations of the captive department including processing invoices, recording deposits and recording monthly adjustments. The role also involves reviewing and reconciling monthly investment activity, preparing monthly financial statements and bank reconciliations, and preparing quarterly and annual regulatory reports. Coordination of tax return preparation with an external CPA firm and review of annual tax returns are also part of the responsibilities. Documentation of workflows and standard operating procedures/internal controls, monitoring cash flows and cash requirements, and coordination and supervision of external audits of captives are required. The Sr. Accountant will develop and maintain proactive communication level with clients and other associates. Board and Association Support, assistance in new captive formations, and attendance at education classes, seminars, workshops, etc., in combination with individual study programs or industry periodicals to expand knowledge and skills of the unit are also expected. Establishing, implementing, and monitoring systems and procedures to ensure timely client reporting and communication, compliance with regulatory requirements, development and delivery of a service plan tailored to clients' needs, and coordination of the services with other US&C departments and vendors are part of the role. Standardizing file organization is also required.

Skills and abilities include the ability to work well with other employees, clients, and business associates; excellent communication (both written and verbal); strong accounting skills; public accounting and audit experience; detail-oriented; ability to interpret insurance documents; ability to organize and complete multi-task; strong computer proficiency, especially in Excel; willingness to complete additional duties and take on additional responsibility as the need arises; ability to meet US&C hiring standards. Experience and education required include a bachelor's degree and two years of accounting experience. Public accounting and audit experience is preferred. Systems proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook is required. Physical requirements include the ability to lift 25 pounds, repeated use of sight to read documents and computer screens, repeated use of hearing and speech to communicate on telephone and in person, repetitive hand movements such as keyboarding, writing, 10-key, walking, bending, sitting, reaching, and stretching in all directions.
