Description
The Radiologist provides timely, accurate, and patient-centered diagnostic imaging interpretation and consultation for West River Health Services (WRHS), a 25-bed Critical Access Hospital and rural health system serving Hettinger and surrounding communities. The physician supports hospital, emergency, clinic, surgical, and outreach services; collaborates closely with medical staff and clinical teams; and contributes to the quality, safety, accessibility, and long-term development of imaging services across the organization.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Interpret diagnostic imaging studies within the physician's credentialed scope, which may include radiography, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, ultrasound, mammography, fluoroscopy, nuclear medicine, and other modalities offered by WRHS.
- Provide clear, complete, and timely reports and communicate critical, unexpected, or time-sensitive findings directly to the responsible treating clinician in accordance with organizational policy and accepted standards of practice.
- Provide radiology consultation to emergency, inpatient, surgical, clinic, and visiting specialty providers, including recommendations regarding appropriate imaging selection and follow-up.
- Perform or supervise image-guided procedures for which the physician is appropriately trained, privileged, and supported by available WRHS resources.
- Participate in an equitable coverage schedule, including after-hours, weekend, and holiday coverage as established by the employment or professional services agreement.
- Review relevant clinical information and prior studies and ensure documentation supports safe continuity of care.
- Work collaboratively with radiologic technologists, nursing, providers, administration, and other departments to support efficient patient flow and a positive patient experience.
- Support imaging protocols, radiation safety, contrast safety, quality assurance, peer review, accreditation, and equipment or technology evaluation.
- Maintain compliance with medical staff bylaws, rules and regulations, credentialing requirements, organizational policies, and applicable federal and state laws.
- Participate in medical staff meetings, committees, utilization review, quality improvement, education, and other professional activities as reasonably assigned.
- Model collaborative, compassionate, evidence-based care and foster a respectful learning environment for residents, medical students, advanced practice providers, nursing staff, and other learners.
- Assist with outreach, service-line development, provider education, and recruitment or retention initiatives that strengthen access to local care.
- Maintain confidentiality and protect patient information in accordance with HIPAA and organizational requirements.
- Complete other duties reasonably related to the position and consistent with professional licensure and privileges.

Qualifications
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited institution.
- Successful completion of an accredited diagnostic radiology residency program.
- Board certified or board eligible in Diagnostic Radiology through the American Board of Radiology or the American Osteopathic Board of Radiology. Board certification must be maintained when required by the employment agreement or medical staff policy.
- Current, unrestricted North Dakota medical license, or eligibility to obtain licensure before beginning practice.
- Current DEA registration when required for assigned duties.
- Eligible for appointment to the WRHS Medical Staff and able to obtain and maintain all necessary clinical privileges.
