Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to adult medical-surgical patients, including orthopedics and general surgery cases, in a high-volume inpatient setting.
- Monitor patient status, administer medications and IV therapies, document care in the electronic health record, and adjust care plans per physician orders and patient response.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (physicians, case management, therapy services, and ancillary staff) to coordinate comprehensive patient care and safe discharge planning.
- Respond to changes in patient condition, perform ongoing assessments, and participate in escalation protocols as needed.
- Ensure patient safety and comfort through effective pain management, activity planning, skin care, infection prevention, and fall-prevention strategies.
- Complete thorough handoffs during shift changes and provide patient and family education to support understanding of diagnosis, treatment, and post-discharge needs.
- Adhere to unit-specific policies, including unit guidelines for scope of practice and necessary competencies when floating to other Med-Surg units.

Requirements
- Active Registered Nurse license (Illinois) in good standing
- Certifications: BLS required; NIHSS and ACLS required per unit requirements
- Floating capabilities: Ability to float to clinically appropriate Med-Surg units as needed
- Experience: Med-Surg nursing experience preferred; orthopedics/surgical med-surg exposure is a plus
- Education: Graduate of an approved registered nursing program
- Commitment to night-shift work and the ability to meet the assignment's guaranteed hours
