HVAC Technician II

J.O. Position: HVAC Technician II

Salary Schedule/Base Hourly Rate (Subject to Change): Support Staff Schedule /$21.53. Additional credit for related years of service and education.

Work Calendar: 12 months

Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Benefits: Eligible, first of the month following date of hire

Evaluation: 90-day Probationary, then Annually

Reports to: Director of Human Resources

About the Role

The HVAC Lead Technician II works under the supervision of the Director of Human Resources to ensure the timely operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of District heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems and equipment. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Supervise HVAC Technicians and Apprentices.
  • Develop competencies to install, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair refrigeration and air conditioning units, evaporative coolers, boilers, forced air furnace units, and associated distribution and control systems.
  • Establish and maintain records for materials and parts required to complete work orders and construction projects.
  • Monitor and oversee/distribute work orders and parts orders assigned to Technicians/Apprentices
  • Estimate labor and material costs associated with internal projects
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.
  • Troubleshoot refrigeration, electrical, pneumatic control and energy management control systems, air handlers, boilers, forced air furnaces, and computerized timing systems.
  • Troubleshoot refrigerated kitchen equipment and water fountains.
  • Calibrate programmable logic controllers and pneumatic control devices.
  • Perform seasonal changeover from heating to cooling, cooling to heating.
  • Schedule and perform preventative maintenance on boilers, refrigeration units, and related equipment.
  • Maintain EPA refrigerant logs.
  • Determine method of repair and materials needed within established expenditure limits.
  • Initiate purchase requisitions as needed.
  • Properly dispose of hazardous and refrigerant waste materials.
  • Communicate with Director of Support Services and school site-based personnel to keep them properly informed of system status.
  • Perform duties relating to other job functions as assigned.

What You Need

Must have or be able to obtain an IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card, through the Arizona Department of Public Safety. High School Diploma or GED.

The employee is occasionally required to sit. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to risk of electrical shock, vibration and extreme heat. The employees must frequently work in small, cramped areas. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, outside weather conditions and extreme cold, toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
