The Human Resources Manager oversees the daily HR operations of the Bangor Region YMCA, ensuring compliance with federal and Maine employment laws and organizational policies. Responsibilities include recruitment and onboarding, employee relations, benefits and leave administration, payroll and HRIS oversight, and maintenance of personnel records. This position serves as a trusted resource to employees and leadership while promoting a positive workplace culture, employee engagement, and organizational success.

Qualifications

What We’re Looking For

• A degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Previous HR experience, including knowledge of employment laws, benefits administration, employee relations, and HR compliance.
• Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
• The ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently.
  Professional discretion and the ability to handle confidential information.
• Experience with HRIS systems is preferred.
• A genuine interest in supporting employees and contributing to a mission-driven organization.

Essential Functions

What You’ll Do

• Oversee daily human resources operations, including recruitment, hiring, onboarding, employee relations, and offboarding.
• Ensure compliance with federal and Maine employment laws, regulations, and organizational policies.
• Educate employees on benefits, leave programs, paid time off, and other employee-related programs.
• Maintain and update the employee handbook, HR policies, procedures, and personnel records.
• Support directors and managers with employee performance reviews, coaching, corrective action, and workplace concerns.
• Develop and implement strategies that promote employee engagement, retention, and professional development.
• Coordinate new hire and benefits orientations and communicate employee benefits and policy updates.
• Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive employee matters.
• Serve as a trusted resource for employees and leadership on HR-related questions and concerns.

This is a full-time, exempt hands-on HR role.


Salary is based on experience.

Required Certifications

SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP preferred or willingness to obtain.
