Public Safety Telecommunicator

Public Safety Telecommunicator – Kingman Fire Department Communications Center We’re looking for a Public Safety Telecommunicator to join the Kingman Fire Department Communications Center. This position is the first point of contact during emergencies, answering 9‑1‑1 and non‑emergency calls, gathering critical information, and dispatching police, fire, and medical units. The telecommunicator uses strong communication skills and sound judgment to protect lives and property within the community. This role operates in a high‑volume communications center that runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It reports to the Communications Center Supervisor and Communications Center Manager. Education High school diploma or GED equivalent, including coursework in office or administrative fields. Experience Experience working in a fast‑paced environment with multiple priorities. Experience providing customer service and responding to public inquiries. Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Windows. Typing Minimum of 3,063 keystrokes per hour. Licenses & Certifications Valid Arizona Driver License or ability to obtain one prior to employment. Ability to obtain and maintain the following certifications within required training timelines: Arizona Criminal Justice Information System (ACJIS) – within six (6) months of hire. Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) – within six (6) months of hire. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) – within six (6) months of hire. Public Safety Telecommunicator – within one (1) year of hire. NIMS ICS‑100, ICS‑200, ICS‑700, and ICS‑800 – within one (1) year of hire. Completion of a dispatch orientation and sit‑along session of at least two hours in duration. Any combination of education, experience, and training that provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work may be considered. Responsibilities Dispatch and Coordination (40%) – Operate multi‑channel radio systems and telephones to dispatch police, fire, and medical units. Communicate clearly and concisely, relay critical information, and monitor unit status throughout each call. Call Taking and Assessment (30%) – Receive and evaluate 9‑1‑1 and non‑emergency calls for service. Obtain essential details, determine the nature and urgency of incidents, and prioritize responses based on established protocols. Technology and Record‑keeping (15%) – Enter, retrieve, and verify information using the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system, Arizona Criminal Justice Information System (ACJIS), and National Crime Information Center (NCIC). Maintain accurate logs, reports, and records while safeguarding confidential information. Emergency Medical Assistance (10%) – Provide emergency medical instructions using approved Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) protocols until responders arrive on scene. Training and Support (5%) – Assist in the instruction and mentoring of new dispatchers as assigned. Participate in meetings, training sessions, and community events, and assist with troubleshooting and testing communications systems. Work Environment Work is performed in a fast‑paced, high‑volume, 24‑hour/7‑day-per‑week emergency communications center. May be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time. Rotating shifts that include nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime may be required.
