Contract Trainer – New York City NG9-1-1 Call Handling System Motorola Solutions, Inc.

Motorola Solutions is seeking 4–6 experienced Contract Trainers to support the City of New York’s large-scale rollout of its new Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1) call handling system.

This is a critical training role during one of the largest public safety technology upgrades in the country. You will deliver high-quality, instructor-led classroom training to approximately 2,200 emergency communications personnel (call takers, dispatchers, supervisors, and support staff) across NYPD and FDNY Public Safety Answering Centers as they transition from the legacy system to the new NG9-1-1 platform.

Role Summary Contract Trainers will be responsible for delivering instructor-led classroom training on the new NG9-1-1 call handling system. Trainers will work as part of a coordinated training team, following a standardized curriculum developed for this rollout. This is a full-time, in-person, on-site role based in New York City .

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver instructor-led classroom training sessions to groups of 10–15 personnel on the new call handling system
• Follow established training curriculum, lesson plans, and facilitation guides
• Adapt delivery style to meet the needs of diverse adult learners, including experienced operators transitioning from the legacy system
• Assess participant comprehension and provide real-time coaching and clarification
• Track attendance, completion, and assessment results using provided tools
• Communicate learner feedback, recurring questions, and content gaps to the training manager
• Participate in train-the-trainer sessions, briefings, and team check-ins as required
• Maintain a professional, supportive, and operationally aware classroom environment
• Support end-users during go-live and post-implementation phases as needed

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of experience as a professional trainer or facilitator in public safety, emergency communications, law enforcement, fire service, or related government environment
• Demonstrated ability to deliver technical system or software training to non-technical audiences
• Strong platform skills and classroom presence; experience managing groups of 10–15 adult learners
• Familiarity with 9-1-1 operations, emergency dispatch workflows, or public safety communications
• Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evening, overnight, or weekend sessions to accommodate shift workers
• NYC residency or ability to commute to NYC on-site locations required

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience as a 9-1-1 dispatcher, call taker, communications supervisor, or public safety trainer
• APCO or NENA certifications (e.g., PST1, CTO, RPL, ENP) strongly preferred
• Experience training staff on a new or upgraded call handling platform
• Experience supporting large-scale technology rollouts in a government or municipal setting

Engagement Details

• Schedule : Full-time hours during training waves; schedule may vary to accommodate day, evening, night, and weekend shift workers

• Adapt training delivery to accommodate various learning styles and shift schedules (including evenings, overnights, and weekends)
• Support end-users during go-live and post-implementation phases
• Provide feedback to project leadership on training effectiveness and user readiness
• Travel to various on-site NYC emergency communications locations as needed
