Job Description

This role combines mechanical assembly, wire and cable harnessing, and hands-on quality inspection and testing of electro-mechanical subassemblies. You will follow detailed electronic work instructions within a manufacturing execution system, assemble mechanical and electrical components using hand and power tools, install firmware on printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs), and perform functional testing and troubleshooting. The position requires strong computer proficiency, strict adherence to build plans, and the ability to document every step of the manufacturing process accurately.

Responsibilities

• Assemble electro-mechanical subassemblies by following detailed electronic work instructions within the manufacturing execution system (MES).
• Open and navigate work instructions for each assigned subassembly, complete tasks step by step, and record completion in the MES.
• Perform electrical assembly by connecting wires, harnesses, and cables to modules and PCBAs using hand and small power tools.
• Use tools such as screwdrivers, wrenches, torque wrenches, power drills, needle nose pliers, wire strippers, and crimpers to complete assemblies safely and accurately.
• Install firmware onto PCBAs by opening the appropriate program on a laptop, running scripts, and verifying successful uploads.
• Conduct functional testing by selecting the correct test area, entering and running test codes, and monitoring results to ensure proper device performance.
• Attach cables to subassemblies, load programs, and run test scripts as part of the testing process.
• Document every step of the manufacturing process in the MES to create a complete electronic device history record.
• Verify specific areas of the build by generating verification numbers, entering them into the system, and interpreting pass/fail results provided by the software.
• Troubleshoot failures by identifying errors, determining root causes, and making necessary corrections to assemblies or processes.
• Use the 42Q manufacturing execution system daily to track work, enter data, and maintain accurate production records.
• Participate in daily 7:00 AM stand-up meetings to receive work assignments, review build plans, and align with team goals.
• Work closely with senior technicians during training, shadowing and collaborating to complete assigned builds and tests.
• Follow all build plans and work instructions without deviation, ensuring consistent quality and compliance.
• Communicate clearly with team members and leaders when troubleshooting issues or clarifying instructions.
• Adhere to ESD and safety protocols, including wearing lab coats and safety glasses, and maintaining a clean and organized work area.
• Contribute to a collaborative team environment by supporting colleagues and working together in a tight, hands-on lab setting.
• Transition to a new area after approximately three months, applying learned skills to additional subassemblies and processes.

Essential Skills

• Proven experience in electro-mechanical subassembly, including both mechanical and electrical components.
• Hands-on experience with mechanical assembly using hand and small power tools.
• Strong computer proficiency, including frequent use of laptops, software applications, and web-based systems.
• Ability to use a manufacturing execution system (MES), specifically 42Q, to open work instructions and track all tasks.
• Proficiency with tools such as screwdrivers, wire strippers, crimpers, wrenches, torque wrenches, needle nose pliers, and small power tools.
• Experience with wiring, wire harness assembly, and crimping for electronic and electro-mechanical devices.
• Demonstrated experience in testing and troubleshooting electronic or electro-mechanical products in previous roles.
• Familiarity with electronics and basic test equipment, including oscilloscopes.
• Ability to install firmware on PCBAs and run scripts to upload and verify firmware.
• Capability to perform functional testing by entering and running test codes and interpreting results.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow electronic work instructions without deviation.
• Comfort using Outlook and Microsoft Teams daily for communication and coordination.
• Ability to document work accurately and completely in an electronic system, creating a reliable device history record.
• Effective communication skills to describe troubleshooting processes and collaborate with team leads and peers.
• Team-oriented mindset and ability to work closely with others in a collaborative environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Previous experience working in an ESD-controlled lab or manufacturing environment.
• Exposure to repair work on electronic or electro-mechanical devices.
• Experience using oscilloscopes and other diagnostic tools for troubleshooting.
• Comfort working in a start-up environment with evolving processes and opportunities for growth.
• Ability to clearly explain past troubleshooting steps, including how issues were identified, escalated, and resolved.
• Strong interpersonal skills to build effective working relationships with technicians, supervisors, and peers.

Work Environment

You will work in an ESD-controlled lab environment where protecting sensitive electronic components is a top priority. Lab coats and safety glasses are required, and you will operate in a tight, collaborative workspace where team members work closely together to meet build plans and goals. The role relies heavily on computers and software systems; you will use a laptop throughout the day, including the 42Q manufacturing execution system, as well as Outlook and Microsoft Teams for communication. The standard work schedule is Monday to Friday, 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM, with an initial two-month training period that may follow a different schedule. Each day begins with a 7:00 AM stand-up meeting where work is assigned and priorities are set. During training, you will be partnered with a technician, shadowing and receiving coaching and guidance as you learn the processes. After approximately three months, you will transition to another area, broadening your experience across different subassemblies. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Diego, CA.

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $26.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
