Radiology Technologist I

Job Summary Operates radiology equipment to produce radiographic images of the body for diagnostic routine purposes. Positions radiologic equipment and adjusts controls to set exposure time and distance according to the specification of the examination. Takes x‑rays following established radiologic requirements and regulations to ensure patient care and safety. Minimum Education Completion of an accredited Radiologic Technology Program. Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Registration from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Work Experience 0 to 6 months of related experience. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Working knowledge of digital radiography (DR) and/or computerized radiography (CR) equipment, techniques, and protocols. Excellent customer service and communication skills. Ability to work as a team and collaborate with co‑workers as well as independently. Positive attitude, self‑motivation and dependability. Accurate and thorough performance of tasks and adaptation to changing conditions. Demonstration of ethical and professional behaviors at all times. Basic computer skills. Capability of wearing lead aprons for an extended period. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Retrieve radiologic orders and input data into electronic medical record. Prepare patients for radiologic procedures and escort them to the appropriate rooms. Provide verbal and/or written instructions and assist patients with positioning. Explain procedures to reduce anxieties and obtain patient cooperation. Position patient on examining table and adjust devices to obtain optimum views per physician request. Operate specialized equipment according to protocols under limited physician supervision. Provide patient care across multiple settings (ER, fluoroscopy, portable units, surgery, Children’s Hospital, PACU, Endoscopy, clinic, outpatient imaging). Move radiograph equipment and adjust controls for exposure factors based on protocols. Practice radiation protection techniques using beam‑restrictive devices, patient shielding, and exposure knowledge. Obtain acceptable radiologic images using CR/DR techniques. Ensure equipment operation with preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and inventory management. Report equipment malfunctions to supervisor, manager, or Radiology IS personnel. Maintain examination rooms and orders, stock necessary supplies as per protocols. Adhere to infection control policies, drug protocols, and administer first aid as needed. Support departmental goals through continuous improvement, education, in‑services, and statistics collection. Maintain professional standards in line with societies such as ARRT and ASRT. Assist with patient sedation monitoring in inpatient settings and ensure informed consent. Actively participate in the Universal Protocol for all invasive procedures. Perform patient care in sterile environments under physician or Radiology Assistant guidance. Decision Making Independent judgment in planning sequence of operations and making minor decisions in a complex technical or professional field. Working Relationships Works directly with patients and customers, internal and external customers via telephone or face‑to‑face interaction, and other healthcare professionals and staff.
