This is a Field Service Technician role supporting our customer site in Calexico, CA. Candidates should be willing to travel to the Calexico area regularly to perform on-site service and have the ability to obtain a Secret-level security clearance. 

Job Summary:

The Field Service Technician is responsible for the installation, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of X-ray security inspection systems at customer locations. This is a hands-on equipment service role focused on electrical and electronic systems. This position requires 100% travel, a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and a strong commitment to customer service.

Essential Functions:

• Perform on-site installation, and preventative and corrective maintenance of X-ray security inspection systems.
• Troubleshoot, diagnose, test, and repair equipment and components.
• Review machine and customer information prior to arriving on-site, and prepare the necessary equipment, parts, and documentation in advance.
• Provide technical support for software, connectivity, and system-related issues as needed.
• Provide support for custom product installations, upgrades, and special projects as required.
• Provide operator and/or technical training.
• Complete all necessary service documentation, including reports, radiation surveys, parts requisitions, and expense reports.
• Input and maintain all data in the service databases (including Astrophysics proprietary software and apps), ensuring timely and accurate completion.
• Update the customer and Astrophysics service headquarters on progress and status of service call.
• Test faulty equipment to diagnose malfunctions and return the defective parts regularly, as parts are accumulated and shipping is cost-effective.
• Deliver the customer package, including warranty, customer survey, and copies of all relevant reports.
• Ensure an outstanding customer service experience.
• Provide technical phone support and documentation as needed.
• Identify opportunities for extended warranty service contracts and repeat X-ray equipment purchases.

Education and Experience:

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
• 2-7 years of hands-on experience in field service, electronics, or related technical field.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and customer service skills.
• Professional appearance, demeanor and attitude.
• Ability and willingness to travel 100% of the time to various work sites.
• Fluent in both written and verbal English.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret-level security clearance, if required to perform assigned job duties.
