Purpose And Summary Statement Under the direction of the Crop Sales Manager/General Manager, the Plant Manager supervises the operations at the assigned location including scheduling, logistics, product handling, rolling stock, plant operations of satellite locations, and on-site customer sales. The Plant Manager assists in the development and implementation of objectives, goals, and operational policies to maximize location profits and effectiveness for the company. Essential Job Functions Display a positive attitude and maintain a good personal appearance with customers. Be responsible for all monthly inventories of fertilizers, chemicals, seeds, fuels, oils, L.P. parts, and equipment. Supervise, lead, and develop full‑time and part‑time employees required to operate the location; assist in the hiring of new staff. Serve as the primary contact for all operational needs for all departments at the location, including people management. Serve as the primary contact for operational needs related to customers. Help train employees to meet state, federal, and company regulatory and safety requirements. Responsible for product ordering, inventory control, and shipping and receiving of seed, fertilizer, chemicals, and facility supplies. Ensure efficient plant operations of blending, loading, handling, mixing, and delivery of agro‑products (chemicals, liquid and dry fertilizers, anhydrous ammonia, and seed products). Maintain records and appearance of all company equipment used at the location; plan maintenance, changes, and improvements. Handle counter sales and phone sales of agronomy and energy products, forwarding orders to the appropriate sales personnel and addressing customer inquiries. Assist sales personnel in increasing sales by meeting growers’ operational needs. Communicate with all salespeople to address concerns regarding operational and customer service issues at plant locations. Follow up timely with salespeople on problems arising from customer complaints. Stay current on agronomy and energy related products and services offered by the company. Supervisory Responsibilities Directly supervise 3 to 10 employees in the crops department, carrying out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; and addressing complaints and resolving problems. Other Job Functions Work hours outside normal ranges to meet seasonal demands. Attend all required meetings and training programs. Adhere to company health and safety policies. Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements Education and Experience Requires a college degree in Ag or Business; some supervisory experience is preferred. Previous applicator or related experience and training can replace the above with willingness to learn. Functional Skills Demonstrate functional math skills and legible reading and writing. Prove ability to work independently and be team‑oriented in an environment. Understand basic computer skills related to Ag business. Other Requirements Must possess or be able to acquire a CDL license with all required endorsements (airbrakes, hazardous materials, etc.) and obtain a current State of Illinois Custom Applicator’s Spraying License.
