Marketing & Communications Intern (Unpaid Educational Internship) Reports To: Operations & Community Director Position Type: Unpaid Educational Internship Position Summary Marketing & Communications Intern will participate in a structured educational internship experience designed to provide exposure to business development, creative marketing, communications, and creative content production in a behavioral healthcare setting. The internship is intended primarily as a learning and professional development opportunity that complements academic, career exploration, or skill-building goals. Through guided observation, supervised projects, educational discussions, and experiential learning activities, the intern will gain practical exposure to professional marketing, communications, outreach, and business development practices. This internship is not intended to replace paid staff, fill workforce shortages, or serve as an employment substitute. Educational Learning Objectives The internship is designed to help the intern: Develop foundational understanding of business development and marketing functions within a behavioral healthcare organization. Gain exposure to professional communications, outreach strategy, and organizational branding practices. Build transferable skills in research, written communication, content development, project organization, and professional collaboration. Learn about ethical communication, confidentiality, and regulatory considerations within healthcare settings, including HIPAA compliance. Under supervision and mentorship, the intern may participate in educational activities such as: Observing business development, marketing, or communications planning processes. Assisting with development of supervised print and digital marketing materials, communication content, outreach concepts, or presentations. Participating in brainstorming sessions, meetings, educational discussions, and project reviews. Conducting supervised market, community, or partnership research exercises. Supporting learning-based projects related to branding, engagement, communications, or organizational growth initiatives. Completing experiential assignments intended to strengthen professional competencies and develop portfolio-quality work samples. Activities will be structured to support learning, skill development, and professional exposure and will be performed under appropriate supervision of the Operations & Community Director. Qualifications Current bachelor’s degree student, trainee, career explorer, or recent graduate in Marketing, Communications, Business, Public Relations, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, or related field preferred. Interest in business development, marketing, communications, or healthcare. Strong communication skills, professionalism, curiosity, and willingness to learn. Ability to handle confidential information appropriately. Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Canva, social media tools, and communications platforms preferred. Participate actively in supervision, educational discussions, and learning activities. Demonstrate reliability, initiative, timeliness, and openness to coaching and feedback.
