Registered Nurse - Clinical Float - Critical Care

Job Summary The Registered Nurse (RN) for the Medical Surgical Float Pool is a professional practitioner who assesses, manages, directs, and provides nursing care activities during the patient’s hospital stay and coordinates care planning with other disciplines utilizing a patient/customer driven approach in a variety of Medical Surgical units. Must be highly energetic, flexible and motivated to support the success of Saint Louis University Hospital. Responsibilities Perform comprehensive nursing assessment and reassessment, including admission, transfer, postoperative, and post‑invasive procedure evaluations. Accurately and completely document assessment findings, nursing interventions, and changes in patient condition. Develop, coordinate, and evaluate individualized care plans based on assessment data, patient diagnosis, lab results, and physician orders. Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to coordinate daily care plans for assigned patients. Provide and document nursing interventions, including medication administration, IV fluid management, and parenteral nutrition, following policies and procedures. Perform restraint care, pain management, and abuse assessment as indicated, following established protocols. Clarify, transcribe, and implement physician orders, including verbal orders, and perform “Read back” procedures. Respond to changes in patient condition with appropriate nursing actions and report significant changes promptly to physicians and other relevant staff. Engage family or guardian in care and decision‑making, as appropriate. Adhere to infection control, fall prevention, and skin injury prevention protocols; complete associated audits when required. Document and communicate nursing care, effectiveness of interventions, and modify care plans as necessary. Participate in quality improvement, evidence‑based practice, and performance improvement initiatives within the unit and hospital. Qualifications Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of employment (Missouri). State of Work Location: Missouri – BLS HCP; RN – Missouri Division of Professional Registration or Compact State RN. Required professional licenses/certifications per state: Illinois – BLS HCP; RN – IDFPR. Oklahoma – BLS HCP; RN – OBN or Compact State RN. Wisconsin – BLS HCP; RN – Compact State RN or Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services RN. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Proficiency in electronic medical record documentation and nursing best practices. Job Specifications Working Conditions: May be exposed to blood‑borne diseases; exposure to unpleasant elements, emergency and crisis situations; irregular hours. Physical Requirements: Occasional prolonged standing/walking; occasional lifting, pushing, transferring patients; occasional reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching.
