Job Title: Brazer/ Assembler

Job Description

The Brazer assembles and brazes copper coils, headers, manifold components, and related sub-assemblies using an oxygen-acetylene torch and various brazing rods. This role prepares coils for brazing, follows coil prints and blueprints, and ensures high-quality, accurate assemblies by applying sound mechanical skills and basic arithmetic.

Responsibilities

• Assemble flare tube extensions, return bends, and various copper hookup components into coils according to coil prints and blueprints.
• Prepare coils for brazing by arranging components, verifying dimensions, and confirming correct materials before starting work.
• Braze sub-assemblies using various brazing rods and an oxygen-acetylene torch, ensuring strong, clean, and consistent joints.
• Braze return bends, headers, and sub-assemblies to coils using coil prints and work instructions.
• Assemble headers and manifold components for brazing both on and off line, ensuring correct fit and orientation.
• Braze components using a braze torch, BCUP 5 braze rod, and Stay-Silv Brazing Flux in accordance with quality and safety standards.
• Perform brazing of 180-degree and 360-degree joints using a braze torch, maintaining proper heat control and alignment.
• Braze brass fittings to copper components while maintaining proper penetration and leak-free connections.
• Set up own workstations and fixtures to braze any coil that passes through the department, adjusting techniques as required by different coil designs.
• Monitor inventory levels of headers and manifold sub-assemblies and report shortages or replenishment needs in a timely manner.
• Use various hand tools and power tools to assemble and prepare parts for brazing.
• Read and interpret blueprints, coil prints, and work instructions, and apply simple arithmetic to verify measurements and layouts.
• Inspect completed brazed assemblies for quality, accuracy, and conformance to specifications, and make corrections as needed.
• Follow all safety procedures when working with torches, flux, and other equipment in a large plant environment.

Essential Skills

• Proven experience in brazing using an oxygen-acetylene torch.
• Ability to braze 180-degree and 360-degree joints using a braze torch.
• Ability to braze brass fittings to copper components.
• Proficiency using braze torch, BCUP 5 braze rod, and Stay-Silv Brazing Flux.
• Ability to assemble and braze headers and manifold components and related sub-assemblies.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and coil prints.
• Ability to use simple arithmetic to verify measurements and layouts.
• Mechanical aptitude and experience with mechanical assembly.
• Proficiency using various hand tools.
• Experience using power tools in a mechanical or assembly environment.
• Ability to use a tape measure accurately.
• Ability to make own setups and braze any coil that passes through the department.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lexington, VA.

The pay range for this position is $24.23 - $25.73/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Lexington,VA.
