Attorney I

Position Overview St. Louis County Counselor's office seeks an Attorney I to join the team. This position is responsible for Municipal Court dockets and may require working night dockets approximately twice a week. The evening dockets are located in North and South County. Attorney I employees also handle expungement dockets, involuntary commitment hearings, administrative hearings and SORA matters. Other duties may include litigation, contract drafting and review, legal research and writing, advising employees, officials, and boards/commissions throughout the County and other miscellaneous duties. Responsibilities Prosecute ordinance violations Provide legal advice, guidance and opinions to County employees, officials and boards/commissions to ensure compliance and adherence to laws Perform legal work related to administrative, transactional, litigation, legislative and other matters handled by the County Counselor’s Office Handle Municipal Court dockets, night dockets, expungement, involuntary commitment, administrative hearings and SORA matters Conduct litigation, contract drafting and review, legal research, writing, and advise employees, officials, boards/commissions Minimum Qualifications Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school Current licensure as an attorney by the Missouri Bar Association Individuals who are sitting for the July 2026 Missouri Bar examination may apply; however, such applicants are not eligible for hire until they are fully licensed attorneys, sworn in to practice law in Missouri.
