Job Summary and Qualifications The Radiation Therapist PRN will administer the actual radiation treatment as prescribed by the Radiation Oncologist, and using the parameters as calculated by the Medical Physicist and Dosimetrist. The Radiation Therapist is expected to adhere to all standards of practice for the profession. Responsibilities Operate a Linear Accelerator safely and accurately. Knowledge of anatomy as it relates to radiation therapy. Communicate effectively with patients and families or significant others. Modify job duties and communication with customers in an age‑appropriate manner. Interact with other departments and Cancer Center Staff. Schedule and coordinate patient treatments and exams. Promote the use of universal precautions where indicated. Be aware of patients’ changing needs as treatment progresses. Maintain work area and treatment rooms in ready condition. Identify potential or actual victims of abuse and understand proper reporting mechanisms. Provide patient, family, and/or significant other education that promotes healthy behaviors, supports recovery, and enables involvement in decisions regarding care. Appropriately assess the patient’s pain and involve the patient in effective pain management using age‑appropriate interventions. Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria appropriate to Adult and Geriatric age groups. Perform machine QA and daily warm‑up. Perform CT simulator daily warm‑up. Give patient instructions for simulation and treatment procedures. Assist with CT scan for patient simulation. Demonstrate ability to charge all procedures. Perform treatment set‑ups including Breast (3 fields), Pelvis (6 fields, 3D, IMRT), Head & Neck (IMRT), Chest (oblique fields), Abdomen, Brain (whole & partial), Electron set‑up, fabricate immobilization devices (aquaplast, vac‑lock), and demonstrate ability to take port films and electronic portal images. Qualifications (ARRT‑R) Radiography. (ARRT‑T) Radiation Therapy, or an Associate Degree, or a Bachelor’s Degree. Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
