Pay Range: $19.00hr - $24.00hr

Job Overview:

The main function of the Phlebotomist II is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.

Responsibilities:

• The candidate should have experience performing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, and updating patient information.
• Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures.
• Properly explains the process of venipuncture and other specimen collection (such as urine or fecal) to patients in a clear and courteous manner.
• Demonstrates techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles.
• Fully understands all physician orders.
• Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
• Labels, centrifuges, splits, and freezes specimens as required by test orders.
• Checks all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure total accuracy.
• Packages specimens for transport.
• Stores specimen samples according to required temperature, places samples in appropriate collection containers, and accurately labels them following specific protocols to maintain specimen integrity.
• Understands and complies with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attends annual department trainings.
• Answers telephone calls and reads laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment as required.
• Minimum of 6 months of work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• High School Diploma or GED.
