Fitness & Wellness SupervisorGeneral Purpose: Under the direction of the Fitness & Wellness Manager, the Fitness & Wellness Supervisor assists with the administration and coordination of a comprehensive fitness and instructional class program. The Fitness & Wellness Supervisor assists with recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, evaluating, and supervising all fitness and instructional class staff. Responsibilities include supporting the Fitness, Wellness, and Instructional Class Programs including daily operations, staff management, fiscal management, risk management, policies and procedures, facility management, scheduling and event planning, marketing and promotions, strategic planning, and program assessment.Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesPrimary FunctionsAssists with the effective planning, implementation, supervision, and evaluation of all Fitness and Wellness programs including but not limited to: group fitness classes, personal training, instructional activity classes, orientations and wellness programsRecruits, hires, trains, and evaluates program assistants and instructorsCoordinates and programs the Fitness, Wellness, and Instructional Class schedule for each semester and break periodCoordinates program assistant(s) schedules/tasks on a weekly and daily basisPlans staff meetings on a semester basis; disseminates necessary information to staffUses Virtual EMS to reserve facilities for activities, classes and eventsUses Virtual CMS to input class schedules and programming on websiteUses Fusion to create Fitness, Wellness, and Instructional Classes and input class details for participant registrationDesigns and distributes program surveys on a semester basis and compiles dataEnsures customer service standards are met; responds to physical, virtual, and verbal member comment cards in a timely mannerDevelops programming for special events and open houses, such as Fitness Jam and ARC 'til Dark welcome eventsCollaborates with the marketing department to plan and execute promotional photography and videography of program offeringsEnsures all class cancellations are communicated promptly by contacting all participants/instructors along with posting notifications in the appropriate areasEnsures facilities and equipment are safe to use; submits virtual FMX repair work orders if neededAssists with development of operational proceduresDevelops new wellness programsTeaches group fitness classes and instructional classesAssists others in department with special tasks as assignedInstructional ResponsibilitiesSchedules, coordinates and oversees group fitness classes and academic classes for sports, dance, fitness and martial arts activitiesDevelops new classes and programs to meet the needs of a diverse campus communityDevelops and implements clinics and classesEnsures class instructors follow class expectations and policiesDevelops class curriculum, skill development and learning outcomes for instructional classesTeaches classes and substitutes for group fitness and instructional classes during instructor absencesHelps ensure all university requirements are met for academic classesQualificationsMinimum & Preferred RequirementsEducation:Bachelor's Degree required, in recreation, exercise science, physical education, kinesiology or related field from an accredited college or university preferredMaster's Degree preferredExperience:Two years of group fitness class instruction experience required (or two years Graduate Assistantship experience)Two years supervisory/management experience requiredPrevious experience in a management/leadership position supervising instructors and administering fitness related recreation programs preferredExperience in a college campus recreation environment preferredLicense & Certification:Nationally recognized group fitness certification from the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA), the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), American Exercise Council (ACE), or an equivalent certification requiredAmerican Red Cross CPR, First Aid and AED certification required (within 30 days of hire)American Red Cross CPR, First Aid and AED Instructor certification preferredTrainings (Must be completed within 30 days of hire):Anti-Harassment Training for SupervisorsWorkplace Violence PreventionData Security & PrivacyGender Awareness TrainingPerformance ExpectationsMust professionally represent Associated Students and San Diego State University at all timesMust be able to successfully fulfill the Essential Duties of this job description and meet performance expectationsHighly organized, confidential and reliable individual with keen written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work in a diverse, frequently changing population of students, faculty and staffMust be able to perform a high level of customer service in a diverse and constantly changing environmentDemonstrated success in managing and mentoring work teams of diverse functions, complying with organizational policies and procedures and supporting change within an organizationCommitment to values of wellness, service, diversity, and sustainabilityKnowledge, Skills & AbilitiesExtensive knowledge of fitness industry and best practicesExcellent interpersonal skills;
