Direct Support Professional

Position Overview Working in the home and/or community environment, the Direct Support Professional delivers quality one‑on‑one services to individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities, supporting them in achieving the goals set out in their Individual Support Plan (ISP). This may include activities of daily living and coordination with the individual’s multidisciplinary team. Essential Job Functions Assist with showering, cleaning, and taking clients out in the community. Transfer the client into and out of a wheelchair. Transport clients in personal vehicle and obtain mileage reimbursement. Provide professional support to adults or pediatric individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities to promote their emotional, physical, and personal well‑being. Implement strategies to help the individual achieve outcomes stated in the ISP. Complete documentation such as EVV and daily service notes to substantiate services delivered. Assist the individual and interdisciplinary team in developing and maintaining the ISP. Immediately report any changes or problems in the individual’s condition to the manager. Complete all documentation in accordance with state and program regulations, Aveanna HealthCare policies and procedures, and applicable accreditation standards. Adhere to confidentiality standards and professional boundaries at all times. Offer guidance, instruction, and role modeling to help the individual reach greater independence. Support opportunities for the individual to experience life in their homes and communities based on their hobbies and interests. Support the individual’s preferences and honor their interests. Assist in developing appropriate life skills necessary to reach their highest potential (e.g., interaction with others, cooking, housekeeping, budgeting, personal hygiene). Support the individual in living an everyday life and ensure their health and safety. Requirements Desire to assist individuals in living life to its fullest. High school diploma or equivalency. Active driver’s license, current automobile insurance, current car registration and inspection if transporting. Willingness to accompany those you serve into the community while maintaining sensitivity to the civil and human rights and dignity of the individual. MUST be 18 or older. Ability to work flexible hours as needed. Eligibility for State Police Criminal Record Check and Child Abuse History Clearance. FBI clearance required for individuals who do not meet PA residency requirements. Other Skills and Abilities Adherence to confidentiality standards and professional boundaries. Physical Demands Must be able to speak, write, read, and understand English. Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of up to 25 pounds. Prolonged walking, standing, bending, kneeling, reaching, twisting. Must be able to sit and climb stairs. Must have visual and hearing acuity. Environment Must be able to function in a wide variety of environments, which may involve exposure to allergens and other conditions.
