SENIOR ACCOUNTANT

Job Location: Lane College - Jackson, TN 38301 Position Type: Full Time Education Level: Graduate Degree Job Shift: Any Job Category: Accounting Position: Senior Accountant Department: Financial Services Reports to: Chief Financial Officer Classification: Exempt Job Purpose and Reporting Structure Under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Senior Accountant assists in the maintenance of accounting books and records. The Senior Accountant is responsible for all areas of financial reporting, including but not limited to developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices, and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assist in supervising the performance of the Accounting Staff in accordance with prescribed policies, procedures, and regulations required by the College, Federal and State Governments. Research, demonstrate, and apply proper accounting treatment per Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Create, implement, and monitor internal controls. Prepare quarterly financial statements. Assist in the budget process as needed. Provide oversight of the audit process. Responsible for month and year end closing processes. Prepare all internal and external reports, including Cash Flow, IPEDS, E-Z Audit, etc. Prepare financial reports requested by the CFO. Review and analyze general ledger and trial balance. Review monthly reconciliation reports for bank statements and investments. Ensure accuracy in financial reporting and prepare journal entries as needed. Review journal entries for accounts payable, payroll, billings, cash transactions, accruals, and cost transfers. Initiate bank transfers, wires, ACH transactions upon approval. Communicate and consult with the CFO regarding the status of the various accounting functions. Communicate with functional areas outside the business office regarding financial procedures. Submit administrative reports to the CFO regarding problems, plans, etc. Perform other duties as requested by the supervisor or higher authorities.
