Physician - Neurologist

Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit the EDRP application within four months of appointment. Duties The provision of neurologic evaluation and treatment of Veterans with compassion on both an inpatient and outpatient basis, along with education and counseling of Veterans and their families on medical conditions and treatments. Participating in and/or managing all aspects of a general Neurology program, including clinical, administrative, academic, and research components when warranted. Managing patient workload within available staffing, which may include support from physician assistants or nurse practitioners. Performing administrative duties such as documentation of progress notes and consultation findings in an electronic medical record, dictation and electronic signature of reports and hospital discharge summaries, and electronic entry and signature of all doctor’s orders for inpatients and outpatients. Providing clinical consultation to staff both within and outside of the Medicine Service Line; patient caseload may be inpatient, outpatient, or both. Neurologists examine patients with neurological disorders, treatment‑resistant headache disorders, seizure disorders, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and others. Collaborating with primary care physicians on a consulting basis when a patient has symptoms suggestive of a neurological issue. Conducting examinations for neurological patients, which may include tests of cranial nerve function, cognitive status, motor skills, and sensory function. Occasional supervision of medical students, physician residents, or physician fellows. Paid Time Off: 50–55 days per year, comprising 26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid federal holidays, and potentially 5 days of paid absence for CME. Licensure: One full and unrestricted license from any U.S. State or territory. Continuing Medical Education: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full‑time with board certification). Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided. Contract: No physician employment contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting. Work Schedule: Monday–Friday 7:30 AM to 4 PM, compressed schedules available. Complete all application requirements detailed in the announcement. Qualifications – Basic Requirements United States citizenship (same limitation on non‑citizens as above). Doctor of Medicine (MD) or a comparable degree from an approved U.S. medical school. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia. Residency training completed in an accredited core specialty program leading to board certification, or acceptable alternative residency path per VA guidance. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Education Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree from an accredited institution. Schools of medicine must be accredited by the LCME; schools of osteopathic medicine by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association.
