Definition of Classification: The Title IX Investigator supports the University's compliance with Title IX, civil rights, and equity-related policies by conducting impartial investigations, assisting with case management, and coordinating key administrative functions for the Office of Equity & Title IX. The position also supports investigations for Human Resources, Student Affairs, and Athletics. This position plays a critical role in fostering a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning and working environment by supporting both formal and informal resolution processes, providing direct assistance to students and employees, and maintaining high standards of professionalism, confidentiality, and compassion. The role requires excellent judgment, strong organizational skills, the ability to manage sensitive information, and the capacity to work in a fast-paced environment with individuals who may be experiencing distress. Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: I. Title IX & Civil Rights Investigations (Primary Function)
• Conduct prompt, thorough, and impartial investigations into allegations of harassment, discrimination, sexual misconduct, retaliation, and related civil rights concerns.
• Plan and execute investigation logistics including scheduling interviews, communicating with parties, identifying witnesses, and preparing evidence.
• Collect, analyze, and synthesize information from interviews, documents, electronic records, and other evidence.
• Prepare comprehensive investigative summaries, including narrative findings, evidence matrices, policy analyses, and relevance determinations.
• Maintain neutrality, trauma-informed practices, and strict confidentiality throughout each case.
• Communicate rights, resources, and procedural information to complainants, respondents, and witnesses. II. Human Resources, Student Conduct, and Athletic Investigations (Secondary Function)
• As needed to support the Human Resources due to conflicts of interests or workload demands, conduct prompt, thorough, and impartial investigations into allegations of employee misconduct and employee relations matters.
• As needed to support the Student Affairs due to conflicts of interests or workload demands, conduct prompt, thorough, and impartial investigations into allegations of student violations of the code of community standards and other student conduct policies.
• Conduct prompt, thorough, and impartial investigations into allegations of compliance and misconduct in the Athletics Department. Qualification Guidelines Any combination equivalent to, but not limited to, the following: Experience/Training/Education: Required

May involve difficult conversations, managing distressing content, and working under deadlines. Occasional travel to system campuses throughout California or for training, conferences, or meetings. Physical Demands: Incumbents regularly sit for long periods; walk short distances on a regular basis; travel to various locations to attend meetings and conduct work; use hands and fingers to operate an electronic keyboard or other office machines; reach with hands and arms; stoop or kneel or crouch to file; climb stairs; speak clearly and distinctly to answer telephones and to provide information; see to read fine print and operate computer; hear and understand voices over telephone and in person; and lift, carry and/or move objects weighing up to 20 pounds. - Bachelor's degree in a related field (Education, Law, Social Sciences, Public Administration, etc.).
- Formal Title IX or Civil Rights Investigator certification.
- Experience conducting investigations, compliance work, student conduct processes, or related administrative roles.
- Strong understanding of Title IX, discrimination laws, civil rights compliance, and/or student conduct procedures (or willingness to obtain training immediately upon hire).
- Training in trauma-informed practices
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills with the ability to remain neutral, calm, and compassionate with individuals in crisis or distress.
- Exceptional writing ability, including synthesizing large volumes of information into clear, factual written reports.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and handle sensitive information professionally.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills; ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and supporting diverse populations.
- Master's degree in Higher Education, Law, Counseling, Social Work, or related field.
- Experience in higher education, particularly in student conduct, Title IX, or accessibility services.
- Previous experience conducting sensitive or complex interviews.
