Position Overview The University of California, Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR) invites applications for a 4‑H Science, Technology, Engineering, Agriculture and Mathematics Academic Coordinator 2. The Academic Coordinator leads the UC 4H STEAM Initiative to develop, strengthen, and evaluate programmatic opportunities for California’s young people in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and agriculture education. A key focus is to adapt and design culturally responsive best and innovative practices, programs, activities, and curriculum to reach youth from communities that have not historically participated in the 4H Program and increase youth readiness to enter the workforce. Location State 4‑H Office, UC ANR Building, 2801 Second Street, Davis, California Reporting Relationship The STEAM Academic Coordinator reports to the Statewide 4‑H Director and collaborates with all personnel in the statewide 4‑H Program, other UC ANR units, the broader UC system, and partnering organizations. The position leads a 4‑H STEAM Advisory Committee and participates in several workgroups. Academic Program Major Responsibilities Conduct a comprehensive and ongoing needs assessment to determine curriculum and program development needs. Lead statewide and participate in or lead regional and national STEAM curriculum and program development projects. Prepare culturally responsive educational materials and programs for county, area and statewide activities aimed at multicultural youth audiences. Design and distribute statewide educational materials for 4‑H volunteers and families. Coordinate and teach statewide workshops, tours, contests and training meetings related to STEAM. Support 4‑H STEAM marketing, communication, and outreach activities to increase visibility in multicultural settings. Cooperate with subject matter specialists, Extension advisors and agencies to provide program support and promote partnerships. Represent UC ANR 4‑H YDP on various statewide and national committees related to STEAM. Contribute to development of funding strategies and resource development for 4‑H STEAM. Provide supervision to the 4‑H State Office educator or Community Education Specialist for STEAM and/or Animal Science. Work collaboratively with the 4‑H Evaluation Academic Coordinator to evaluate STEAM-related activities and disseminate outputs, outcomes and impacts. Required Qualifications Minimum of a Master’s degree in science, engineering, agriculture, animal science or a related STEAM discipline. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships within a multicultural environment. Experience working collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and developing productive partnerships. Experience developing curriculum. Experience in program implementation and evaluation. Experience in program planning and budget management. Experience designing and implementing trainings for staff and/or volunteers. Experience managing and resolving conflict. Knowledge of basic technologies, including word processing, e‑mail, Microsoft Office, the Internet and website content. Additional Requirements Unrestricted and permanent U.S. work authorization. Background investigation required (fingerprinting, criminal history clearance, CANRA compliance). Ability to travel flexibly; proof of liability and property damage insurance required; valid California Driver’s License to drive a County or University Vehicle. Position is not remote; onsite work required. Disclosure of any administrative or judicial decisions related to misconduct within the last seven years. Compliance with university policies and applicable labor laws. Desired Qualifications and Experience Terminal Degree in a STEAM-related discipline. Experience developing and delivering science, engineering, agriculture, animal science and/or technology education in out-of-school time programs to multicultural audiences. Familiarity with 4‑H youth programming. Experience working with volunteers and leading volunteer groups. Cooperative Extension and/or Land Grant University experience. Experience supervising staff. Experience working with state and national educational standards. Skills Required Technical Competence : Content expertise in youth development or workforce development, familiarity with Cooperative Extension education methods, program development in urban or rural settings, ability to contribute to multidisciplinary projects. Communication : Excellence in written, oral, and interpersonal communication; ability to coordinate with diverse stakeholders; skill in communicating complex information in audience-tailored formats; literacy in online communications and computer software. Collaboration, Teamwork, and Flexibility : Model and support effective teamwork, remain open to new ideas and innovative solutions, adapt to changing community and organizational needs. Interest in Continued and Lifelong Learning : Maintain a program of continuous self‑improvement through professional development opportunities. Salary & Benefits Salary : Academic Coordinator II series. Step 1 – $84,246 to Step 5 – $101,425 annually. Position is 50% soft funded; the successful candidate will seek extramural funding.
