Teen and Family Services is a community providing your teen and entire family the tools, skills and knowledge to deal with behavioral and mental health challenges in a holistic way.

Position Summary

The LPC/LMFT/LCSW is a contract part-time position. The Counselor is supported by the Clinical Team and is responsible for TAFS participant’s treatment. Counselors provide individual counseling and emotional support to their participants as they travel down the path to healing in the foster system. A large component of the counselor’s role involves:

• Therapy
• Clinical Evaluation
• Treatment Planning
• Referral
• Service Coordination
• Counseling
• Documentation
• Professional and Ethical Responsibilities
• CANS/ANSA Certification

Additionally, the role of the counselor often goes beyond just providing counseling, as counselors are often the only concerned party involved in a participant’s life. They may need to be available to their participants in crisis situations or be on-call during non-working hours.

Outreach and Support

• Provide individual counseling by choosing appropriate theories and techniques to use; identify and document relevant progress and needs; assign and discuss implementation of treatment plan.
• Provide case management for participants with legal issues or co-occurring disease
• Prepare emails and weekly/monthly reports to probation officers regarding progress in program and needs.
• Create and document all participant-related data in TherapyNotes in a timely manner and according to company, state and federal guidelines
• Provide Crisis Management Care
• Screening for eligibility and appropriateness for Admission
• Intake-initial and administrative procedures
• Assessment for diagnostic evaluation; history; identify strengths, weaknesses, problems and needs; gather collaborative information
• Treatment planning to identify problems establish goals, objectives and decide on treatment methods
• Counseling – application of theories, techniques, and implementing the treatment plan. Family counseling and adolescent/family support
• Case management to coordinate services for participant care with probation officers, liaison and collateral contacts
• Crisis intervention to respond to needs during acute distress
• Referral to outside support systems and community resources for service not available at TAFS
• Professional responsibilities including ongoing training

Qualifications:

• 4-year Bachelor's Degree, Masters and Texas Certified License
• Five (5) years relevant work experience with children and adolescents
• Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

• Knowledge of theory counseling methods and techniques
• Knowledge of Dual Diagnosis Treatment
• Applied Knowledge of the Counseling Core Functions
• Ability to make accurate and appropriate counselor inferences, assessments and judgments;
• Personal commitment to uphold and adhere to the Code of Ethics as outlined by federal and state guidelines
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
• Ability to organize and report data
• Ability to work with a team of professionals and have the ability to implement team strategic approaches to work assignments
• Proficient in operating Windows-based word processing, spreadsheet, and data base software;
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, peers, other TAFS employees, outside organizations, other agencies and the general public
• Basic knowledge of case management system: TherapyNotes
• Information technology competent
• Ability to perform several tasks concurrently, time management and organizational skills.
• Ability to maintain confidential information and organize and maintain detailed records
• Ability to complete necessary paperwork and meet deadlines and changing priorities
• Ability to understand different cultures
• Must be able to communicate clearly and professionally with TAFS staff and manager, participants and their families, and community visitors
• Must have problem solving abilities and be a self-starter
• Moderate physical demand and travel is required

Human Resources:

Job Type: Contract Hourly

Yearly: $35-$45

JOB PURPOSE: Conducts group and individual counseling sessions for adolescents in the foster system and completes required documentation.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: LPC, LMFT or LCSW Texas Certified

OTHER REQUIREMENTS OR CONDITIONS(specify):

Current State of Texas Driver License or if you live in another state, must be currently licensed in that state.

Malpractice Insurance

Liability insurance required if employee will operate personal vehicle on Center property or for Center business.

Must be insurable by Center’s liability carrier if employee operates a Center vehicle or drives personal car on Center business.
