Director of Payroll

The client is seeking an experienced Director of Payroll to manage and oversee all aspects of payroll operations for a complex, multi-entity organization. This position requires ensuring accurate and compliant payroll processing, developing internal controls, and driving continuous improvement across payroll systems and processes. The ideal candidate should be a strategic leader with deep expertise in payroll compliance, systems management, and team development, capable of handling payroll for a multi-state and international workforce. The Director of Payroll will be responsible for overseeing full-cycle payroll processing and establishing payroll policies, procedures, and internal controls. The role includes ensuring compliance with payroll tax regulations, managing payroll audits and reporting, and leading year-end processes such as W-2 preparation. The director will partner with HR, Accounting, Finance, and IT to ensure accurate data integration and supervise the payroll staff, fostering a high-performing team environment. Other responsibilities include managing payroll systems, handling complex payroll scenarios involving international employees, and driving automation and efficiency improvements. Qualifications for this role include a bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, with payroll certification preferred. The candidate should have over ten years of progressive payroll experience, including leadership roles, and experience in managing payroll for large employee populations. Strong knowledge of multi-state and international payroll regulations and expertise with enterprise payroll systems and HR platforms are essential. Government contracting experience is a plus.
