The Clinical Psychologist is responsible for coordinating psychological activities and programs, conducting psychological evaluations, diagnosing, counseling clients, and conducting psychological research. The Psychologist provides clinical supervision, consultation, and technical assistance to program staff and guidance to graduate psychology trainees. The Psychologist works under limited supervision, with moderate latitude for initiative and independent judgment. Additional duties as assigned include serving in a supporting role for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation, which may require alternate shift patterns or locations. Essential Job Functions Attends work regularly, may be asked to work specific shift schedules or rotating schedules; supports agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned. (5%) Provides individual or group counseling for youth, adults, and families, offering therapeutic sessions to address mental health issues, improve coping strategies, and support overall well-being. (20%) Administers, interprets, and conducts psychological tests and assessments using standardized psychological tests to evaluate clients' mental health and diagnose psychological conditions. (15%) Supervises the work of others by overseeing activities of other psychologists or mental health professionals, providing guidance, support, and ensuring standards are met. (10%) Implements specialized treatment programs with the treatment team, monitors effectiveness, and ensures programs meet patients' unique requirements. (10%) Develops and coordinates training programs by designing educational and training sessions for staff, clients, or stakeholders to enhance understanding and skills related to psychological practices. (10%) Designs and monitors behavior modification and skill acquisition plans, assessing patient behaviors, creating plans, and facilitating skill acquisition. (10%) Coordinates and evaluates mental health and psychological delivery services, managing initiatives and ensuring they meet patient needs, while assessing effectiveness and making adjustments. (10%) Provides training, education, and expert consultation to multidisciplinary teams and community stakeholders on psychological services. (10%) Performs other duties as assigned, including disaster response and COOP activation participation. (5%) Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs) Knowledge of interviewing techniques with individuals and families, and current DSM diagnostic criteria. Knowledge of psychotherapy modalities such as CBT, DBT, behavior therapy, and other empirically supported modalities. Knowledge of administration, scoring, and interpretation of psychological tests, including personality and intellectual instruments. Knowledge of The Joint Commission and CMS conditions of participation relating to psychological services. Skills in using psychological instruments to evaluate personality, neurocognition, adaptive functioning, suicide risk, and malingering (e.g., MMPI, HCR-20, VRAG, TOMM, MFAST, SIRS). Ability to provide direct services in accordance with professional standards. Ability to serve as a member of the psychology management team. Ability to provide individual and family education regarding serious mental illness. Ability to complete treatment documentation in electronic medical records using computers. Ability to communicate assessment data and treatment/discharge implications to team members, courts, and patients. Ability to educate staff on implementation of individual and group therapy programs as well as individualized intervention programs. Ability to operate a computer and applicable software. Ability to train and supervise others. Licensure, Registration and Certifications Licensed Psychologist in Texas or a reciprocity state. Doctoral degree in psychology or equivalent from an accredited institution, with a major in psychology. Initial Screening Criteria Graduation from an accredited institution with a doctoral degree in psychology. At least one (1) year of supervised experience by a licensed psychologist in psychological services; typically a full‑time supervised internship. One year of experience conducting individual and group psychotherapy with forensic populations in an inpatient psychiatric setting. Additional Information Applicants must pass a fingerprint background check, pre‑employment drug screen, and registry checks (CANRS, Nurse Aid, Medication Aide, Employee Misconduct, LEIE). Males 18‑25 must register with the Selective Service. All applicants must be at least 18 years old; Waco Center for Youth applicants must be 21 years old. Flexibility in work hours may be required, including overtime and extended hours. Compliance with HHSC immunization policy and state hospital operating procedures related to immunizations is required. Vaccinated according to level of contact; if not vaccinated for influenza, mask and protective measures may be required.
