The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP) is expanding its cardiology services and seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join the Cardiac Electrophysiology (EP) inpatient team.
The Cardiac Electrophysiology program at HUP has long been a leader in electrophysiology research, education, and clinical care. The team provides advanced, patient-centered care for individuals with complex arrhythmias and related cardiovascular conditions across the region and beyond.
The EP service includes 21 attending electrophysiologists and a multidisciplinary team of fellows, APPs, nurses, EP lab staff, device specialists, pharmacists, administrative professionals, and other clinical partners. Together, this team supports comprehensive inpatient and procedural care while advancing Penn Medicine's missions of clinical excellence, research, and education.
Position Description
The EP APP will provide comprehensive inpatient care for patients with acute and complex cardiac rhythm disorders. This role requires close collaboration with EP attending physicians, fellows, nurses, pharmacists, social workers, case managers, procedural teams, and other members of the care team.
Complete admissions, history and physical examinations, and new patient evaluations
Perform daily clinical assessments, rounding, and management of acute and complex arrhythmias, cardiovascular disease, and general inpatient medical conditions
Manage pre-procedural and post-procedural care for EP interventions, including device implantation, device extraction, catheter ablation, and other procedures
Order and interpret diagnostic studies, including laboratory testing, imaging, ECGs, telemetry, device data, and hemodynamic information
Manage cardiovascular medications, including antiarrhythmic therapy, anticoagulation, guideline-directed cardiovascular therapies, and select inpatient/critical care medications as appropriate
Perform procedures as credentialed, such as device interrogation and direct current cardioversion
Coordinate discharge planning, transitions of care, medication reconciliation, and patient/family education
Participate actively in multidisciplinary rounds and care coordination discussions
Contribute to education, quality improvement, and the broader clinical mission of the EP program
Scheduling and Shift Structure
This role typically includes 12-hour day shifts
Specific scheduling expectations, including weekend rotation when applicable, will be reviewed during the interview process and will follow Department of Advanced Practice and Penn Medicine HR guidelines.
Minimum Requirements/Credentials
Master's prepared Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP or AGACNP) or Doctorate, Master's or Bachelor's Degree in Physician Assistant (PA-C), or equivalent credentialing as permitted by institutional policy
Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant, as applicable
National board certification as an ACNP/AGACNP or PA-C
Current BLS and ACLS certification required
DEA registration and prescriptive authority as required for the role
Cardiology, electrophysiology, and/or acute inpatient experience preferred
Experience working within multidisciplinary teams preferred
Strong knowledge of cardiovascular pathophysiology, arrhythmia management, and cardiovascular pharmacology
Excellent communication, organizational, and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-acuity academic inpatient environment
