Hybrid Experienced Automotive Controller

Overview Hybrid experience in automotive controller roles with responsibility for all financial and accounting activities within an automotive dealership. This role oversees general ledger, cost accounting, payroll, accounts payable, tax compliance, inventory control, budgeting, and financial reporting. A strong understanding of dealership operations, financial analysis, and strategic planning is key. This is a permanent hybrid position with remote and on-site work options. Responsibilities Oversee all accounting operations including Billing, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, General Ledger, Cost Accounting, Inventory Accounting, and Revenue Recognition. Coordinate the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts and report variances. Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements. Coordinate the preparation of regulatory reporting. Support month-end and year-end close processes. Ensure quality control over financial transactions and reporting. Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings. Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain strong internal controls. Calculate commissions and handle payroll for a large team. Oversee financial aspects of business planning, strategic planning, and process improvement initiatives. Lead the finance team and foster a culture of leadership and continuous improvement. Conduct floor plan reconciliation and other dealership controller tasks as required. Provide leadership in risk management and legal activities involving the company's financial status. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA or MBA preferred. Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role, specifically as a dealership controller. Strong understanding of dealership operations and automotive retailing. Proven experience in financial analysis, strategic planning, and leadership. Proficiency in corporate accounting and GAAP, with knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley compliance. Experience with creating financial statements, general ledger functions, and month-end/year-end close processes. Excellent accounting software skills; experience with payroll, commissions, tax, accounts payable, and financial statement preparation. Strong interpersonal and communication skills; excellent analytical and organizational abilities. Self-motivated, self-directed, and able to work closely with a senior management team. Floor plan reconciliation experience is preferred.
