We are seeking applications from qualified candidates for a postdoctoral fellowship performing translation cancer research studying mitochondria biology and metabolism in lung cancer in the laboratory of Dr. David Shackelford in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at UCLA’s David Geffen School of Medicine. Candidates will need to have expertise in molecular and cellular biology and basic biochemistry. Prior experience working with animal models such as genetically engineered mouse models (GEMMs) and/or patient derived xenografts (PDXs) is encouraged but not required. The job will require performing both in vitro cell line work and in vivo work in GEMMs and PDXs. This includes performing lung tumor induction in GEMMs, lung tumor implantation in PDXs, dosing of mice in therapeutic studies, performing micro PET-CT imaging on mice, microscopy, genetic, molecular and biochemical analysis of tumor tissue, metabolic analysis of experiments such as isotopomeric tracing and respirometry as well as executing the analysis of all studies. Lastly, the candidate will be expected to analyze and prepare data for publication in peer-reviewed journals as well as present at scientific meetings. This study will require outstanding verbal and written communication skills. The work is highly translational and requires comfort working in a multi-discipline team environment with experts in cancer metabolism, mitochondrial biology, PET imaging, radiochemistry, thoracic surgery, oncology and pathology.
