Finance Clerk I Payroll (Part-Time)

Job Title

In support of the Charlotte County Clerk of the Circuit Court and County Comptroller's mission to safeguard public records and public assets, this position performs a variety of payroll and financial support functions, including recording, processing, verifying, and maintaining financial and payroll records. The incumbent works with highly confidential and sensitive information, including employee compensation, benefits, garnishments, and tax levies, and must exercise sound judgment and maintain strict confidentiality. This position operates in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment where accuracy, attention to detail, and timeliness are essential.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assists the Payroll department with processing bi-weekly payrolls in accordance with established payroll schedules and applicable laws for the Clerk of Court and other Constitutional Offices.

Reviews employee timesheets, leave records, and payroll documents for accuracy and completeness; follows up with departments to resolve discrepancies.

Assists with processing payroll data, including new hires, terminations, pay rate changes, direct deposit information, deductions, and benefit changes.

Assists with verifying payroll records and personnel files.

Maintains employee payroll files and ensures payroll records are complete, accurate, and confidential.

Prepare payroll reports, reconciliations and spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel.

Assist with Florida Retirement System (FRS) reporting and Workers' Compensation payroll processing.

Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations, as well as organizational policies and procedures.

Assists with payroll audits by gathering records, preparing supporting documentation, and responding to auditor requests.

Provides backup support to Payroll during absences or periods of increased workload.

Performs related duties and special projects as assigned.

Ability to type 35 wpm. Excellent computational skills, proficiency with 10 key calculator and accurate typingkey boarding skills. Superior communication skills, initiative, organization, and sound judgment. Accuracy with numbers and attention to detail, with the ability to meet daily deadlines, is expected and required in this position.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or equivalent is required, along with a minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience as a full-charge bookkeeper, with a strong emphasis on payroll and benefits administration. Experience working in a computerized financial systems environment is preferred, including proficiency with Microsoft Excel. Experience in governmental accounting and financial reporting is also preferred.

This is a typical office environment involving the use of standard office equipment. Care and maintenance responsibilities go hand in hand with the daily use of such equipment. This position requires the individual to change toner cartridges, paper bails, staple devices, and replace ribbons if necessary. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

6.15 hours are earned per pay period. Earned time off can be used after 30-days of service. PTO is based on length of service and increases after 5 years of service.

Employees are eligible to take their birthday off as a paid benefit, after completion of their initial introductory review period. Employees observe 11 paid holidays each year.
