Phlebotomist Sr

Overview Texas Oncology is seeking a Phlebotomist Sr to join our South Austin location, with occasional coverage at the Lakeway site. This full‑time position runs Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm, with no weekends, calls, or major holidays. Responsibilities Performs phlebotomy and collects appropriate specimens from patients as ordered, ensuring pre‑authorizations and completing necessary consent. Maintains proper documentation in the quality assurance program (accessioning logs, equipment records, checklists). Ensures adequate inventory of supplies and verifies all supplies are viable before use. Sends specimens to reference laboratories for tests not performed in‑house. Processes incoming orders for lab testing. Processes in‑house and incoming reports. Updates and files all daily paperwork, lab logs, and maintenance logs. Operates designated laboratory equipment as directed. Uses equipment effectively, skillfully and efficiently while maintaining it and the work area. Performs waived lab testing under CLIA guidelines, recording lot numbers for controls, calibrators, and reagents. Complies with regulatory agency standards, OSHA laws, and Universal Precautions. Properly disposes of hazardous materials. Maintains a clean working environment and restocks the phlebotomy and laboratory area as needed. Maintains confidentiality of all patient and staff information. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum five years of relevant experience. Licensure from an accredited phlebotomy school recommended. Current state licensure, if applicable. Physical Demands The physical demands include full range of body motion, manual and finger dexterity, eye‑hand coordination, extended sitting or standing, occasional lifting up to 40 lbs, and requires corrected vision, color perception, hearing to normal range, and legible handwriting. Work Environment The employee is regularly exposed to direct contact with patients and potential exposure to blood/body fluids, chemotherapeutic agents, infectious agents, corrosive chemicals, glassware, needles, and other hazardous materials.
