ASCP Certified Inpatient Pharmacy Technician - Overnight Shift

Join a dedicated healthcare team in the heart of the Midwest region as an Inpatient Pharmacy Technician working overnight shifts on a 7-on, 7-off schedule. This role is essential in supporting patient care by delivering medications, restocking automated dispensing cabinets, and compounding both sterile and non-sterile preparations following USP standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Respond promptly to medication requests from hospital staff and ensure patient needs are met.
• Assist pharmacy staff, nursing, and physicians by researching medication information using electronic health records and other resources.
• Operate pharmacy automation systems and troubleshoot dispensing cabinet issues, coordinating with vendor technicians as needed.
• Perform safety checks including barcode scanning and visual inspections during medication preparation and dispensing.
• Prepare compounded sterile and non-sterile products accurately, adhering to USP 795, 797, and 800 guidelines.
• Handle hazardous medications safely using closed-system transfer devices.
• Maintain cleanliness and proper documentation in the IV room and pharmacy areas.
• Participate in training new technicians and pharmacists and contribute to departmental quality improvement initiatives.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Experience

One year of pharmacy experience is preferred but not mandatory.

Certification and Licensing

Candidates must register or apply for Pharmacy Technician registration prior to starting. Certification as a Pharmacy Technician is required within one year of employment.

Mental and Physical Requirements

This position requires considerable mental focus, standing and walking up stairs for approximately 75% of the shift, light lifting up to 25 pounds, and fine motor skills for handling small vials and syringes.

Working Environment

Work is primarily performed in the pharmacy with frequent visits to patient care units. The environment includes exposure to refrigeration units, automation equipment, printers, telephones, IV room noise, pressure barriers, and cleaning chemicals.
