About the Organization Casita Maria Center for Arts & Education (Casita Maria) is the first nonprofit organization in the United States established in 1934 to serve vulnerable yet vibrant Latino youth ages 5 to 19, their families, and community residents using arts, culture, and education, originally in East Harlem and since 1961 in the South Bronx. Today, we welcome people from across the Caribbean, Mexico, Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East, providing free arts, education, literacy, youth development, and cultural programs that help young people build confidence, skills, and a strong sense of belonging. Our collective efforts cultivate young professionals to become the next generation of passionate and informed arts and education leaders. Currently, Casita Maria has approximately 15 full-time employees and approximately 35-40 full- and part-time program coordinators, group facilitators, teaching artists, and activity specialists who lead after-school, summer camp, holiday camp, and public arts programs and special events. About the Opportunity The fully bilingual (English/Spanish) Family and Community Outreach Coordinator is the primary team member helping Casita Maria expand and deepen our relationships with parents, caregivers, local organizations, and residents of the surrounding community. The Coordinator will strengthen, grow and maintain the bridge between Casita, families of program participants, and the larger community. This position will help lead Casita Maria to the next stage in its development of increased audiences, outreach, and community engagement. Reporting to the Director of Education & Programs, and in collaboration with a team of education and arts professionals, the Coordinator will work with Casita Maria staff to reach out to parents/guardians, families, service and school partners, and the community at-large in order to develop long-term relationships and maintain active engagement. Primary Responsibilities Lead all registration activities for the after-school, summer day camp, and holiday camp programs. Assist with enrollment and daily attendance tracking on DYCD Connect as needed to support compliance and manage waiting lists. Work closely with all afterschool education and arts staff to monitor participant enrollment, attendance, and engagement, and ensure professional and consistent communication with families and the general public. Provide weekly attendance reports and other reports (demographics, average daily attendance, etc.) as needed for compliance and grants opportunities. Develop and implement workshops for families and the larger community to increase adult education related to child development, social-emotional learning, overall health and wellness, and topics of interests such as finance, art, dance, and immigration. Organize and coordinate parent activities (family nights) to deepen participation and relationships with existing families and enhance current programming for participants. Collaborate with local schools to facilitate outreach and enrollment and build relationships. Represent Casita Maria at community meetings and events (tabling), and joining online forums to share information about the organization and our impact in the community. Administer family surveys and questionnaires to gauge needs and interests. Provide support to the Director of Education and Artistic Director in overall community outreach and engagement activities. Skills & Experience We’re Looking For Must be fully bilingual and fluent in reading, writing and speaking Spanish and English. High school diploma or Associate’s required. Bachelor's degree preferred. At least 2-3 years experience working in public service organizations with administrative, planning, and communication responsibilities. Knowledge of and passion for arts education and youth and family services. Experience working with immigrant populations and supporting local residents in a community-based setting. Ability to work during special events on evenings and weekends. Highly motivated, detail-oriented, ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Ability to work collaboratively, quickly, and under pressure—with a sense of humor. Strong computer skills. Knowledge of Google Drive, Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Canva and other standard business technology. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions Frequently speaks, reads, writes, and interacts with children, adolescents, parents, service providers, and the community at large. Requires sitting, standing, walking, lifting, stooping, bending, and physical activity. Works in an in-office environment. Willingness to perform activities outdoors and/or during inclement weather. Work Hours The Family and Community Outreach Coordinator will work Mondays through Fridays, 10:00am to 6:00 PM with one hour of unpaid lunch in an in-office environment in the Hunts Point/Longwood section of the South Bronx. As a direct service organization, remote work is extremely limited and subject to the approval of the Executive Director. The Family and Community Outreach Coordinator should be prepared to work some weekends and/or evenings as needed or scheduled in advance.
