Part Time Fire/EMS Support Specialist The City of San Marcos is currently accepting qualified applications for the position of Part Time Fire/EMS Support Specialist with the San Marcos Fire Department. This administrative position will play a key role on the Fire Administration team while providing exceptional customer service to both internal staff and members of the public. The ideal candidate will have prior exposure and administrative experience within a regimented, chain of command environment. Provide general administrative support to Fire Administration staff. Process Public Records Act requests. Support EMS staff with project area needs, such as monthly AED checks and meeting minutes. Provide Fire Administration phone coverage. Perform data entry, analysis and reporting. Document formatting, editing and review. Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers. Collaborate and coordinate with other part‑time staff. Maintain office equipment. Hours: Monday – Thursday, 7:30 – 5:30 pm, not to exceed 20 hours weekly. The hours required for this position are dependent on department needs; as priorities shift, hours may be adjusted. Knowledge of Organization and function of public agencies; codes, regulations, policies and procedures related to the department; modern office administrative and secretarial practices; business letter writing; principles of data collection; computer applications (word processing, database, spreadsheet); business mathematics; recordkeeping; public relations; customer service techniques. Ability To Perform administrative and secretarial support tasks accurately and efficiently; provide tactful and discreet service; understand and apply organizational policies; prioritize multiple phone calls and service requests; compose correspondence and reports; perform mathematical, financial and statistical computations; enter and retrieve data quickly; maintain filing and tracking systems; organize projects and meet deadlines; operate modern office equipment; use English effectively; exercise judgment and initiative; maintain positive working relationships. Education / Training Completion of 12th grade, supplemented by specialized training in business administration, public‑safety administration, emergency services, or similar areas.
