Granite Technical Institute (GTI) – CTE – Agriculture Teacher (.67 FTE) Position Type: Secondary Teaching/CTE – Multiple Areas Date Posted: 5/27/2026 Location: Granite Technical Institute Date Available: 08/03/2026 Closing Date: 06/02/2026 The Granite Technical Institute is seeking a qualified and motivated Career and Technical Education (CTE) Agriculture teacher for the 2026‑2027 school year. Required Certification A valid Professional Educator License issued by the Utah State Board of Education with a Secondary or CTE License Area of Concentration with an agriculture, agriculture comprehensive or natural resource science endorsement, OR A valid Associate Educator License issued by the Utah State Board of Education with a Secondary or CTE License Area of Concentration with an agriculture, agriculture comprehensive or natural resource science endorsement, OR an equivalent license and endorsement in another state, or A bachelor's degree in a related field including natural resources, plant and soil science, agricultural biology. A passing score on the Praxis 5701 (Agriculture) of 147 or higher. Completed coursework in the competency areas found on the Utah State Board of Education endorsement requirements webpage. New teacher education program graduates who have not received their teaching license yet may upload a conferral letter from their university education program in lieu of their license. This letter must include the anticipated date of graduation and the specific areas in which the applicant will be licensed. Required Documentation In‑state and out‑of‑state applicants must upload a copy of their current state license. If approved for an Associate License, upload a copy of your highest university degree AND your AEL eligibility letter in lieu of a full teaching license. New teacher education program graduates without an official teaching license should upload a conferral letter from their university education program verifying the date of graduation and the content area(s). A copy of the candidate’s official teaching license and degree will be required upon hire. If qualifying by university degree only, upload the applicable degree when asked for a teaching license; the applicant will be required to complete requirements for a professional secondary license with all required endorsements within three years of hire. If qualifying by completed coursework, upload a copy of your college transcript with the courses circled that meet the requirements listed on the state application for an endorsement. If qualifying by a Praxis assessment, upload an official Praxis Score Report issued by the Educational Testing Service (ETS). Required Knowledge and Skills Maintain an orderly classroom lab and outdoor environment. Pass all safety requirements and demonstrate correct use of equipment. Act as an advisor for FFA CTSO and integrate CTSO standards into classroom instruction. Know current industry certifications related to areas of instruction and support students in gaining in‑demand industry skills. Work with industry partners to align classroom instruction with skill needs of employers. Use and implement approved curriculum maps. Evaluate student academic progress through formal and informal assessments. Communicate student progress to parents through various formats. Use technology to enhance student engagement. Collaborate and work with other professionals in Professional Learning Communities. Implement proficiency‑based grading. Build positive working relationships with students, staff, administration, business/industry partners, parents and the community. Possess strong oral and written communication skills. Possess strong computer and educational technological skills. Work independently with little direct supervision and work as part of a team. Display effective multi‑tasking and time‑management skills. Job Summary Under the direction of the school principal, the classroom teacher is responsible for creating a positive learning environment where students develop skills to become critical thinkers, problem solvers, lifelong learners, and productive citizens. Teachers maintain a safe environment; establish rapport with students, parents and colleagues; motivate students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for further education and do so in accordance with each student’s ability. Teachers differentiate curriculum and use effective research‑based methods of instruction. Implement Proficiency‑Based Grading in student evaluations. Essential Functions Maintain a safe, orderly agriculture lab environment following all required safety procedures. Utilize lab equipment to apply concepts found in USBE’s CTE Core Curriculum. Maintain and inventory equipment. Build strong working relationships with industry partners to support alignment of core content to industry needs. Infuse FFA, work‑based learning, and hands‑on, project‑based learning into daily curriculum. Teach the core content area(s) outlined in the USBE’s Core Curriculum, and adopted by the Board of Education, correlated with other approved learning activities. Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small‑group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of the child. Utilize effective teaching techniques in translating lesson plans into productive student learning experiences. Utilize computers and other technological classroom support equipment in student instruction. Supervise students with indoor and outdoor responsibilities (e.g., recess duty, gymnasium activities) in all types of weather and air quality. Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere through organization and appropriate discipline strategies. Evaluate students’ academic and social growth, maintain records, and prepare progress reports. Be familiar with and willing to implement Proficiency‑Based Learning in evaluating students. Communicate with parents through conferences, telephone calls, e‑mails, student planners, school website, and other appropriate means to discuss student progress. Communicate and cooperate with other professional staff regarding students’ academic and personal growth areas. Attendance, physical presence, and timeliness are essential functions. Create an effective learning environment through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards and interest centers. Provide and maintain a safe and supportive environment in the classroom and on the school campus. Maintain professional competence through in‑service education activities provided by the school district and self‑selected professional growth activities. Participate in faculty meetings as required. Administer appropriate student attendance policies and procedures. Participate in appropriate educator evaluation procedures per district guidelines. Administer group standardized tests in accordance with state and district testing procedures. Participate in faculty committees and sponsorship of student activities. Select and requisition books and instruction materials; maintain required inventory records. Model professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, colleagues, and members of the community. Understand and adhere to laws, district policies, and procedures. Maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, school staff, district staff, and members of the community. Demonstrate professional ethics as outlined by the Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission. Be a positive role model. Non‑Essential Functions Other duties as assigned. Required Training and Education A Utah State Board of Education (USBE) approved cleared criminal background check. A valid Professional Educator License for the State of Utah within the relevant “Licensure Area of Concentration” and if applicable, “Endorsement.” A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or a passing score on Praxis 5701 (Agriculture). Passing a safety test at 100% for all equipment used in training. Working Environment Supervision of students requires both indoor and outdoor responsibilities (e.g., recess duty, gymnasium activities) in all types of weather and air quality. Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation. Physical Demands and Requirements Requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must reach with hands and arms, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, and talk or hear. Vision must include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to focus. Physical demands include moving and lifting supplies, equipment, etc. up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
