Sports Instructor

Countryside YMCA is seeking an enthusiastic Sports Instructor to inspire youth and young adults through the joy of sports. In this role, you'll build physical competence, boost confidence, and teach fundamental skills — all while creating a fun, safe, and inclusive environment for every participant.This position includes a complimentary individual membership to the Countryside YMCA for staff who work a minimum of 16 hours per quarter.What You'll DoEnsure the health, safety, and well-being of all participants through close, active supervisionCreate a fun, safe, and positive experience that welcomes and supports every participantMaintain program supervision in line with YMCA standards (ratios, attendance, etc.)Partner with the Sports Programming Director to set goals and objectives for each sessionTeach rules, fundamentals, and skill progressions while emphasizing teamwork and sportsmanshipDesign and adapt age-appropriate, progressive lesson plansConduct monthly equipment safety checks to ensure all gear is safe and in proper working orderKeep parents/guardians informed on their child's progress and upcoming session registrationShare information about additional YMCA programs and opportunities with familiesKnow and follow Countryside's emergency procedures, responding appropriately when neededMaintain a clean and organized program spaceReport incidents to your supervisor as neededWhat You'll NeedHigh school diploma or equivalent, or currently enrolledOne (1) year of experience teaching sports to children/teens in a structured setting preferredStrong working knowledge of the designated sportCoaching certificate or equivalent desiredCurrent First Aid/CPR certificationAdditional RequirementsComplete YMCA Coaching 101 Training within 90 days of start dateObtain CDC HEADS UP Concussion in Youth Sports certificate within 30 days of start dateParticipate actively in all trainings, meetings, and special eventsExcellent customer service skillsReliable, punctual attendanceStrong communication skills across all age groupsFlexibility to work weekends and holidaysMust pass a criminal background checkPhysical Requirements: Ability to lift, bend, stretch, stoop, or push items up to 25 lbs to set up facilities, and physical ability to demonstrate techniques to participants.Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform essential job functions.Countryside YMCA is committed to providing a safe environment for all children and vulnerable individuals in our care.
