Industrial Project Manager

Can work out of Ames IA, Milwaukee WI or St Paul Mn .. projects 12 -18 months, then will reassign to new project. We are seeking a highly skilled Industrial EPC Project Manager to take complete ownership of complex, multi-discipline projects from conception through engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and final handoff. The ideal candidate brings strong leadership to oversee project financials, drive multidisciplinary engineering deliverables, manage client relationships, and mentor junior project staff within a fast-paced industrial construction environment. Position Overview Role Level: Project Manager (5+ years of experience) Sector: Industrial EPC / EPCM (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction / Management) Core Focus: Power Generation (Simple-Cycle / Combined Cycle), Industrial Process, and Energy infrastructure Core Responsibilities Overall Project Leadership Project Ownership: Provide total project ownership across engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and turnover phases. Execution Strategy: Develop and maintain the overall EPC execution plan, project delivery strategy, and risk register. Culture Champion: Foster a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement across all project phases. Team Development: Mentor and coach Assistant Project Managers (APMs) and Project Engineers (PEs). Design Oversight: Lead and manage all engineering deliverables—including design packages, technical documents, and interdisciplinary coordination—to support early procurement and construction readiness. Constructability: Manage interfaces between engineering disciplines, vendors, and construction teams to ensure constructability and operability. Technical Reviews: Support and lead formal design reviews (30/60/90%), HAZOPs, and constructability sessions. Review and approve technical deliverables and change notices. Procurement, Contracting & Subcontracts Sourcing & Bidding: Oversee procurement planning, bid package development, vendor qualification, and commercial evaluation. Supply Chain Alignment: Coordinate with engineering and supply chain teams to ensure the timely release of long-lead materials and equipment. Contract Negotiation: Negotiate and finalize major subcontracts and vendor agreements; manage subcontractor scopes to ensure alignment of technical requirements with contractual obligations. Construction Management Field Execution: Coordinate the transition from design to field execution, ensuring seamless handoff of engineering deliverables to construction teams. Site Performance: Manage cost, productivity, safety, and quality performance on-site, supporting field leadership in resolving design queries, RFIs, and field changes. Financial Performance: Develop, monitor, and control project budgets, forecasts, cash flow, and overall fee retention. Change & Schedule Control: Manage change control processes, track the impact of design or scope modifications, and drive schedule adherence against key milestones. Reporting: Prepare and present monthly project status reports, cost performance metrics, and variance analyses. Post-Construction & Turnover Commissioning & Close-out: Oversee commissioning, start-up, performance testing, punch-list completion, and delivery of as-built documentation. Owner Handover: Coordinate owner training, O&M manual compilation, project close-out packages, and conduct formal lessons-learned reviews. Required Qualifications Experience: 5+ years of EPC/EPCM project management experience (predominantly on the contractor/vendor side rather than the client side). Sector Expertise: Proven track record executing Power Generation projects (specifically Simple-Cycle / Combined Cycle), Industrial Process, or Energy. Engineering Management: Proven success managing multi-discipline engineering deliverables through design and execution phases. Labor Environment: Experience leading projects in self-perform and unionized labor environments. Contract Knowledge: Strong understanding of EPC contracting models, including lump sum and cost-plus arrangements. Risk Management: Demonstrated ability to assess and mitigate technical, commercial, and schedule risks. Software Proficiency: Strong proficiency in Primavera P6, Bluebeam, Acrobat, Excel, and Microsoft Office Suite. Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience. Preferred Qualifications Degree Fields: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
