Investigative Reporter

Generates, research and report short, mid and long form stories through investigation and research

Use sources, documents, computer-assisted reporting, and other journalistic tools to develop, report, write and produce exclusive accountability stories and investigative projects

Analyze and report documents, such as lawsuits and other legal documents , tax records, government reports, regulatory reports, and corporate financial filings.

Analyze and report using Databases of public records.

Conducts numerous interviews with on-the-record sources as well as, in some instances, interviews with anonymous sources (for example whistleblowers )

Use federal or state Freedom of Information Acts to obtain documents and data from government agencies.

Gathers information by using sources, tips, press releases etc.

Performs research through interviews, public records and other sources

Verifies facts to assure accuracy in reporting

Performs other duties as may be described

Degree in Journalism or related field with a minimum of 3 years newspaper experience preferred.

Good News Judgment, accuracy and the ability to meet deadlines

Proficient in Microsoft Office applications

Excellent communication skills

Knowledge of AP Style

Must be detailed oriented, self- motivated and have the ability to handle multiple shifting priorities

Possess excellent presentation skills

Must have a driver’s license and have access to an automobile
