Sprinkler Equipment Maintenance

To perform routine semi-skilled work in the maintenance and repair of sprinkler equipment and to assist in the performance of skilled maintenance tasks as assigned. Employees in this classification receive general supervision from the Director of Maintenance and Operations or his/her designate within a framework of standard policies and procedures.

Typical Duties:

• Prepare blueprints for sprinkler systems, determining water pressure, area to be covered and sprinkler heads required
  • Estimate and order required material for various sprinkler systems
  • Inspect and repair broken and/or defective sprinkler heads
• Assist in installing and making emergency repairs and adjustment to plumbing, fixtures and equipment including pipes, washers, gaskets, faucets, floats and valves
• Program the irrigation control boxes for time and duration of watering
  • Replace and/or repair control boxes as needed
• Connect electrical cables to irrigation control box and test for proper functioning
  • Perform related duties as required

Employment Standards:

• Knowledge of basic methods, practices, and materials used in several of the building trades including basic electrical and plumbing repairs
• Knowledge of the safe use and operation of a variety of tools and equipment used in repair/maintenance work
• Ability to understand and follow both oral and written instructions
• Ability to read and write at a level necessary to perform the duties of the position
• Ability to safely use and operate a variety of hand tools, power tools, and equipment used in building, grounds, and maintenance work
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms
• Ability to perform basic arithmetical calculations
• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties
