Job Description

This Service Technician role focuses on repairing and maintaining a fleet of industrial scrubbers, concrete grinders, and floor sweepers used in rental operations. You will begin in a shop-based repair technician capacity servicing all flooring equipment, then transition into a field Service Technician role performing repairs at customer facilities. The position combines hands-on mechanical and electrical troubleshooting, customer interaction, and on-the-road service within a defined regional territory.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance (PM) on industrial scrubbers, concrete grinders, and floor sweepers to ensure equipment reliability and safety.
• Troubleshoot and repair small engines, including both electric and petroleum-powered units, to restore equipment to full working order.
• Disassemble and reassemble equipment components to accurately diagnose issues and complete appropriate repairs.
• Use hand tools, power tools, measuring tools, and company-provided specialty tools to service and repair rental equipment.
• Inspect all returned rental equipment and complete necessary repairs and maintenance before it is rented again to another customer.
• Develop strong troubleshooting skills during the training period to efficiently diagnose and repair equipment while working independently in the field.
• Address client complaints professionally and work to resolve issues related to equipment performance or service quality.
• Utilize a service laptop or service phone while on the road to manage work orders, document repairs, and follow established communication protocols.
• Operate sit-down forklifts safely to move, load, and position equipment and materials within the facility.
• Collaborate closely with the service team to stay aligned on schedules, priorities, and customer needs.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area, following safety markings and guidelines within the facility.
• Demonstrate a proactive, "put me in coach" attitude by taking initiative, helping where needed, and supporting teammates to meet customer demands.

Essential Skills

• Hands-on experience with automotive repair or small engine repair, including mechanical troubleshooting.
• Ability to troubleshoot and repair small electric and petroleum engines used in industrial equipment.
• Strong mechanical aptitude, including confident use of ratchets, sockets, wrenches, and related tools to tighten bolts properly and perform mechanical assemblies.
• Basic electrical troubleshooting skills related to small motors and equipment systems.
• Experience using hand tools, power tools, and measuring tools safely and effectively.
• Ability to read, understand, and follow repair procedures and instructions when disassembling and reassembling equipment.
• Customer service skills with the ability to explain service repairs, hold professional conversations, and de-escalate upset customers.
• Clear and effective communication skills to stay aligned with the team and handle customer interactions appropriately.
• Comfort working with sit-down forklifts or willingness to learn safe forklift operation.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Some form of automotive repair training or related technical training.
• Ownership of a personal set of tools for mechanical work (having the majority of tools is preferred; specialty tools are provided).
• Reliable work habits, including appropriate work attire and adherence to safety and quality standards.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in small motor repair and small engine repair in an automotive, equipment rental, or similar environment.
• Background in general mechanic work, including brake systems, welding, and basic fabrication is beneficial.
• Prior experience servicing rental equipment or industrial cleaning/flooring equipment is a plus.
• Ability to manage time effectively while working on the road within a defined territory.
• Strong problem-solving mindset and willingness to learn new equipment and systems.
• Positive, team-oriented attitude with a willingness to take on tasks outside a narrow job description.
• Comfort using a service laptop or smartphone to process work orders and communicate with the team.
• Professional appearance and demeanor when interacting with customers at their facilities.

Work Environment

You will work in a large, climate-controlled facility of approximately 45,000 square feet that is clean, well-organized, and clearly marked with safety lines. Large garage doors, sized for service vans, may be open at times and can affect the temperature, but the space is supported by large fans to keep air circulating. Equipment is grouped and organized by type, creating a tidy and efficient workspace. The role follows a Monday through Friday schedule, typically from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with occasional work up to about 5:15 p.m., and there are no overnight jobs and no weekend work. You will have a 30-minute lunch break, with the option to leave the facility if needed, as well as two 10-minute breaks during the day. The service territory includes locations such as Charlotte, Asheville, Black Mountain, Shelby, and nearby areas in South Carolina. Depending on work orders and scheduling, you may take the service van home or return it to the facility at the end of the day. The environment emphasizes safety, cleanliness, and professionalism, including appropriate work attire suitable for a technical service and repair setting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Charlotte, NC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $28.00/hr.
