Lead Driver Full Time Operations – Piedmont, SC, US Salary: $28.50 per hour Gold Star Foods is the leading food distributor to K‑12 schools in the United States. Position Overview The Driver Lead is responsible for managing day‑to‑day operations to ensure that the fleet is well‑managed and performing efficiently and effectively. They ensure their team arrives safely and on time and coordinate deliveries, swap drivers as needed, and maintain dependability, safety focus, flexibility and cooperation. Principal Responsibilities Identify problems and remedy them in a timely manner. Provide a clean, safe, and orderly work environment for facility employees. Demonstrate leadership, initiative and integrity to cultivate and develop subordinate staff. Promote training and development of support staff to improve and advance employees. Create an atmosphere where employees and management share a common team goal. Chair various round‑table discussions to educate employees, solicit feedback, resolve conflicts, foster open communication, and promote employee involvement in decision‑making. Recognize required actions, reason, use common sense, good judgment, and good decision‑making skills. Use management tools to identify, correct and prevent operational and labor‑related problems. Train drivers on company policies and procedures and monitor compliance. Spot‑check trailer loading to ensure correct procedure. Process associated paperwork. Operate computers and telephones to communicate with drivers and supervisors. Perform basic vehicle maintenance tasks such as adding oil, fuel, radiator fluid or minor repairs. Spot‑check equipment for damage after use. Review schedules and maps to determine optimal vehicle routes. Load and unload trucks and assist others with loading and unloading. Provide information at driver meetings as needed. Complete Lead Driver duties and drive local routes (Straight Truck & Tractor Trailer). Required Skills Superior verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills. Superior managerial and diplomacy skills. Extremely proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent analytical, decision‑making, and problem‑solving skills. Thorough understanding of DOT work regulations and rules. Education / Experience Valid CDL A. 2 years recent Class A driving experience; a minimum of 6 months to a year Lead Driver experience and/or related staff‑overseeing experience. Clean driving record with no more than 2 moving violations in the last 5 years. No DUI/DWI convictions in the last 10 years. At least 21 years of age. Experience and working knowledge of transportation routing and vehicle tracking programs highly desired. Knowledge of DOT, State, and Federal transportation regulations. Available Shifts 1st Shift: 3 AM – 1:00 PM 2nd Shift: 10:00 AM – 8:00 PM 3rd Shift: 6:00 PM – 4:00 AM Working Conditions and Physical Demands Outdoor environment; exposure to extreme heat, cold, rain, and other weather elements. The work environment can be noisy due to movement of equipment and vehicles in the yard. Employees may need to sit or stand as needed; walk on a level surface for periods throughout the day; drive and maneuver large trucks in tight spaces; climb up and down from yard tractors multiple times throughout the shift. Proper lifting techniques are required; may include bending, reaching, and lifting objects up to 50 pounds.
