Staff Accountant

SHR Talent is partnering with a healthcare client in Nashville, TN in its search for a Staff Accountant to join its growing corporate accounting team. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented accounting professional to support general ledger accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, revenue accounting, month-end close, financial reporting, and financial analysis within a rapidly growing healthcare and clinical research organization. Reporting directly to the Controller, the Staff Accountant will work cross-functionally with accounting, finance, operations, and clinical teams to ensure accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and timely accounting processes. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of GAAP, experience with general accounting and financial reporting, and an interest in joining a high-growth organization undergoing significant expansion, process improvement, systems implementation, and acquisition integration. Responsibilities

• Prepare and post accurate journal entries and maintain the general ledger in accordance with US GAAP.
• Assist with the month-end and year-end close process, including accruals, account reconciliations, and variance analysis.
• Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations and investigate and resolve discrepancies.
• Support the preparation of monthly financial statements, management reports, and financial reporting packages.
• Process and review accounts payable (A/P) invoices, ensuring accurate coding, approvals, and timely payment.
• Support accounts receivable (A/R) activities, including customer billing, invoicing, collections, and aging analysis.
• Generate accurate customer invoices based on contractual terms, billable activities, milestones, and other revenue triggers.
• Track and validate billable activities and supporting documentation in partnership with clinical, operational, regulatory, and project management teams.
• Maintain customer billing information and ensure compliance with customer-specific invoicing requirements.
• Monitor A/P and A/R aging reports and assist with follow-up on outstanding balances.
• Assist with revenue recognition and ensure revenue is recorded accurately and in accordance with US GAAP.
• Analyze revenue, expenses, margins, billing trends, and other financial data to identify trends and variances.
• Assist with monthly and quarterly financial reporting, forecasting, budgeting, and reforecasting.
• Support cash management, working capital analysis, and cash flow forecasting.
• Assist the Controller and CFO with developing and monitoring financial KPIs, including revenue growth, EBITDA, cash flow, and operating margins.
• Support financial modeling, profitability analysis, study-level financial reviews, and ad-hoc accounting and financial analysis.
• Assist with external audit and tax preparation activities.
• Support accounting system implementations, process improvements, automation initiatives, and development of standardized accounting procedures.
• Help transition manual and spreadsheet-based billing processes to more efficient, technology-driven workflows.
• Assist with standardizing accounting and financial processes across multiple locations and business units.
• Support M&A integration, including accounting integration, financial reporting consolidation, and diligence activities for newly acquired entities.
• Assist in developing and improving accounting and finance integration processes and procedures.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting efficiency through automation, technology, and emerging AI tools.
• Maintain strong internal controls and ensure accurate, timely, and compliant accounting records.
• Partner cross-functionally with corporate and operational teams to resolve accounting, billing, and financial reporting issues.
• Maintain the highest standards of integrity, accuracy, confidentiality, and ethical conduct.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field required.
• 2+ years of experience in accounting, general ledger accounting, staff accounting, revenue accounting, or a related finance role.
• Strong understanding of US GAAP and fundamental accounting principles.
• Experience with month-end close, journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and financial reporting.
• Experience with accounts payable and accounts receivable, including invoicing and aging analysis.
• Experience with revenue accounting or revenue recognition preferred.
• Healthcare, clinical research, life sciences, contract research organization (CRO), or other service-based industry experience preferred.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills and experience working with accounting or ERP systems.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
• Ability to analyze financial data, identify discrepancies, and communicate findings clearly.
• Experience supporting process improvement, accounting system implementation, automation, or workflow optimization is a plus.
• Exposure to M&A, acquisition integration, financial consolidation, or multi-entity accounting is preferred.
