Packaging Engineer

Background & Purpose of the Job The North America Foods business unit has been identified as a key growth area for Unilever globally. A robust end‑to‑end agenda has been created for historical growth over the next 3‑5 years. The primary purpose of this role is to lead packaging activities to deliver best‑in‑class packaging innovations, drive sustainability and impactful cost‑saving programs for the entire Unilever Condiments category, including Unilever Premium Condiment brands. The right candidate should bring the necessary skillset, attitude and professionalism, along with a strong understanding of rigid packaging development and functional requirements to develop and qualify new pack structures. Who You Are & What You’ll Do You will be responsible for delivering the key packaging activities to deliver Innovations, Cost Savings, Business Continuity and Sustainability program OTIF. You will manage multiple package development projects and prioritize tasks based on timelines. The right candidate will have the ability to deliver effectively in a cross‑functional team environment by working with Brand, Planning, Product Group R&D, Procurement, Quality, and material suppliers. You will be expected to use previous experience to ideate and implement large‑scale cost‑saving programs. This will require influencing and leadership skills to clearly layout opportunity, gain stakeholder buy‑in and drive projects from concept to completion. The position will also interface with Manufacturing and Supply Chain for packaging related projects including line trials, production start‑ups, cost savings, improving line efficiencies related to packaging, and resolving documentation issues for specifications. The ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with teams composed of individuals with technical and non‑technical backgrounds and perspectives is essential. The right candidate will have strong leadership qualities, providing technical guidance to junior team members, holding suppliers accountable and challenging the status quo. What You’ll Need to Succeed B.S. Degree in Packaging Science, or engineering equivalent. 2 to 4 years’ experience in the packaging field. Strong understanding of rigid packaging, with relevant qualification experience on different molding platforms. Demonstrated understanding of package development process and engineering principles. Ability to design and develop primary and secondary packaging components that meet consumer, brand, customer, and manufacturing objectives. General understanding of project management to realize the order, importance, and impact of appropriate project activities and maintain packaging commitments to project scheduling. Understanding of consumer, business, and category needs and the relationship to packaging decisions & execution. Pay Pay: The pay range for this position is $71,400 to $107,200.
