Medical Specialist 2

Overview The Medical Specialist 2 provides primary medical care, working in collaboration with other physicians and nurse practitioners or midlevel providers for adults with developmental disabilities and co-occurring conditions (i.e., mental health). Services are provided primarily through the Adirondack Clinic located in Corinth, with satellite offices in Schenectady at 500 Balltown Rd, and Schuylerville Day Hab at 99 Broad Street in Schuylerville. A compressed schedule of 4 ten-hour days may be discussed at interview. Position involves maintaining timely documentation in an electronic health record and providing limited telehealth per individual’s request/need. Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to integrate care with specialty providers and other clinicians. Participate in on-call telephone coverage for off hours with the team (currently 1 in 5). Cover CATH residents as necessary. Responsibilities Review and establish medical histories, perform physical examinations, and manage the medical care of individuals with developmental disabilities Maintain medical records in the EHR system and provide justification for billed services, including signing EHR treatment plans, requests, and routine reviews Prescribe medications and other treatments to treat medical issues Discuss patient condition, treatment, and prognosis with family members and caregivers and answer their questions Coordinate and supervise the treatment and care for a caseload of individuals Develop and implement training programs for staff Collaborate with nursing, psychiatry, physical/occupational/speech therapy, and nutrition services to develop individualized therapy plans as necessary Review discharge plans from hospitalizations to resume care in residences; educate staff on hospital discharge plans if necessary Engage with multidisciplinary treatment teams to help maintain optimal physical functioning for individuals Participate in meetings and training as appropriate Collaborate with nurse practitioners in the appropriate care of disabled individuals Other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications Possession of a license to practice medicine in New York State (see limited license/permit option under notes) AND successful completion of a residency training program in your specialty approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) Eligibility to appointments and to maintain employment includes not being listed on Federal and/or State Medicaid and Medicare exclusion lists If appointed, may be required to become an enrolled Medicare provider and to obtain a National Provider Identifier (NPI) and participate to bill through Medicare and Medicaid Loss of license, limited permit, or board certification may result in removal from the position Limited license/permit option: if licensed in another state or by written examination in Canada and meet other requirements, may be eligible with a current limited permit to practice medicine in New York State; must obtain full license within one year of permit issue Additional Information NY HELPS program title with potential non-competitive appointment; permanent competitive status may follow within one year OPWDD employees may have preference considerations and must be eligible for Medicare and Medicaid programs Various benefits and programs are available, including health insurance options, paid holidays, vacation, sick leave, parental leave, retirement, and professional development opportunities OPWDD is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer promoting inclusion All people with disabilities are encouraged to apply. #J-18808-Ljbffr
