The successful candidate will have extensive experience developing medical affairs strategy for a novel therapeutic launch, with a strong understanding of the evolving CNS/neurodegenerative disease landscape and the scientific engagement needs of key stakeholders across the treatment continuum.This is a ground-floor leadership opportunity: the VP will build the Medical Affairs team and infrastructure from scratch, shaping strategy, processes, and culture ahead of launch. This individual will work cross-functionally with Clinical Development, Regulatory Affairs, Commercial, Market Access, and Pharmacovigilance to ensure medical strategy is aligned, scientifically sound, and launch-ready.Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop and lead the U.S. Medical Affairs strategy, including scientific communication, evidence generation, and HCP/KOL engagement, across pre-launch, launch, and in-market products.Build and lead a high-performing Medical Affairs team, including Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs), Medical Directors, and Medical Communications personnel as the function scales.Establish and maintain relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs), academic institutions, investigators, and other relevant medical/scientific stakeholders.Lead scientific platform development, including publication strategy, medical education programs, and evidence-generation support (including real-world evidence and investigator-sponsored studies).Partner cross-functionally with Commercial, Market Access, Finance, Legal, and Regulatory teams to align medical strategy with overall brand and corporate objectives.Oversee development of scientific/medical materials, slide decks, and medical communications (e.g., publications, congress presentations, medical information responses).Monitor the evolving scientific, clinical, and treatment landscape (e.g., emerging data, competitive pipeline, standard-of-care shifts) and adjust strategy accordingly.Lead advisory board planning and execution, and manage KOL engagement strategy in coordination with Medical Communications and Commercial functions.Ensure all Medical Affairs activities comply with applicable legal, regulatory, and compliance standards (e.g., fair balance, PhRMA Code, off-label promotion guardrails).Develop departmental budget, KPIs, and performance metrics for the Medical Affairs function.Represent Medical Affairs in cross-functional leadership meetings and provide strategic input into brand planning and lifecycle management.QualificationsRequiredBachelor's degree required.Minimum 10-15 years of medical affairs experience within the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry, including senior leadership roles.Direct experience in Alzheimer's disease and/or Multiple Sclerosis (MS) required.Demonstrated experience leading medical affairs strategy for at least one successful product launch.Extensive experience with KOL engagement, field medical (MSL) leadership, and scientific communication planning.Strong knowledge of FDA regulatory requirements as they relate to medical affairs activities, industry compliance standards (PhRMA Code, OIG guidance), and evidence generation/real-world data strategy.Excellent scientific, strategic, and executive communication skills.Proven ability to build a function and team from the ground up in a fast-paced environment.Experience leading cross-functional teams and managing external vendors/consultants.PreferredAdvanced degree (MD, PharmD, PhD, MS, or equivalent) preferred.Experience launching therapies with a Medicare-dominant patient population.Experience with global medical affairs and cross-regional collaboration (EMA, PMDA, NMPA markets).Experience in small-to-mid-sized biotech companies preparing for first commercial launch.Why Join UsYou'll have the opportunity to build a Medical Affairs organization from the ground up and play a pivotal leadership role in bringing a novel Alzheimer's therapy to patients.
