Construction Project Cost Accountant What a day could look like

You start your morning on a large commercial build in Bergen County, NJ, opening the project cost ledger and aligning it with yesterday’s field progress. You partner with the Project Manager to refresh the forecast, fine-tune revenue recognition, and keep the budget on course. By midday, you’re reviewing subcontractor pay applications, verifying supporting documents, and confirming that insurance certificates, bonds, and all compliance requirements are current. In the afternoon, you assemble the owner invoice package, reconcile commitments, and follow up on outstanding receivables. Before you sign off, you update the savings/risk log, complete certified payroll compliance reporting, and summarize the project’s financial status for leadership.

Your impact

• Own project financial reporting to ensure accuracy and timeliness
• Maintain budget discipline by monitoring costs, commitments, and variances
• Support revenue recognition and rolling forecasts with data-driven insights
• Analyze cost trends, highlighting savings opportunities and potential risks
• Process subcontractor pay applications and verify all backup
• Review subcontractor insurance, bonds, and compliance documentation
• Prepare project invoicing and partner with AR to drive collections
• Manage certified payroll compliance and associated reporting
