We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the following position: Volunteers of America–Greater New York (VOA‑GNY) Location: Northern New Jersey Volunteers of America–Greater New York is seeking a mission‑driven, strategic, innovative, and compassionate leader to serve as Assistant Vice President (AVP) for New Jersey Programs , overseeing a diverse and impactful portfolio of behavioral health, supportive housing, and youth residential services across the region. This role is responsible for driving growth, strengthening service quality, and ensuring that all programs within the New Jersey division are aligned with the organization’s mission, strategic plan, and agency‑wide priorities. This is a pivotal leadership role for an experienced human services executive who thrives in complex environments, leads with emotional intelligence, and is energized by expanding high‑quality programs that help individuals and families achieve stability, wellness, and independence. About Our New Jersey Programs Behavioral Health Housing Programs providing intensive, trauma‑informed, on‑site support for adults managing emotional, psychiatric, psychological, substance‑related, or behavioral health needs. Youth Residential Programs offering safe, stable, COA‑accredited environments for young people preparing to age out of foster care and transition into adulthood. Community‑based and supportive services designed to help clients build life skills, maintain housing stability, and pursue their personal wellness goals. Across these programs, our teams of licensed mental health counselors, social workers, nurses, and direct care professionals partner with clients to deliver individualized, strengths‑based care. The AVP will play a central role in expanding services in New Jersey, strengthening program quality, and ensuring that every site operates with excellence, compassion, and accountability. The Opportunity The Assistant Vice President is responsible for the leadership, management, and growth of VOA‑GNY’s New Jersey service programs. This includes oversight of program operations, staff leadership, fiscal management, regulatory compliance, community partnerships, and strategic development. You will lead a talented team of program directors and managers, steward multimillion‑dollar budgets, and collaborate closely with government partners, funders, and community stakeholders. Translate portfolio strategy into concrete operating plans that ensures alignment in service delivery models, policies, and performance expectations. Identify emerging trends, community needs, and policy changes to proactively position New Jersey for growth and innovation. Develop, expand, and market program services aligned with organizational goals and community needs. Evaluate program performance and implement continuous improvement strategies. Recruit, supervise, develop, and retain qualified personnel. Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and professional growth. Fiscal & Operational Oversight Manage program budgets, ensuring financial stability and compliance. Oversee program facilities and ensure they meet the highest standards of safety and quality. Community & Government Relations Maintain strong relationships with local governments, licensing bodies, and funding agencies. Represent VOA‑GNY in community forums, partnerships, and advocacy efforts. Organizational Stewardship Ensure all programs operate within VOA‑GNY policies, procedures, and mission. Implement systems for continuous quality improvement, including data‑driven performance monitoring and outcome evaluation. Perform additional leadership responsibilities as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Master’s degree in a social science, public administration, human services, or related field. At least five years of relevant leadership experience in human services, behavioral health, supportive housing, youth services, or related fields. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple programs serving diverse client populations. Strong understanding of New Jersey behavioral health systems, supportive housing models, Medicaid/managed care, and relevant regulatory frameworks. Experience with budget development and oversight, program evaluation, personnel management, and regulatory compliance. Strong skills in public relations, government relations, and community engagement. Supervisory experience required. Salary Range $144,000 – $154,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
