Health Care Specialist (LPN or RN): District Float Location: District Wide Hours per Day: 7 hours per day; start times as early as 7:30 am and end times as late as 4:15 pm. ½ hour unpaid lunch. Pay Range: $25.35 per hour (Step 1) – $34.12 per hour (Step 6) Anticipated Start Date: 08/26/2026 Application Status: Open until filled Calendar Classification: 9 Month – Class 8 Testing Requirements Internal Office Professional candidates must have passed qualifying testing prior to bidding. Candidates must have a qualifying score in: Health Care Assessment, Microsoft Word, Basic Office Skills, and Following Written Instructions. Position Summary The primary goal of the Health Care Specialist is to care for student health, injuries, and/or illnesses promptly. The role requires working with medically fragile and cognitively impaired students and performing technical nursing procedures under the direction of a Licensed School Nurse. Primary Job Functions First Aid Administer first aid, emergency, and episodic care per nursing licensure. Monitor students and refer to Licensed School Nurse when assessments, evaluations, or nursing interventions may be necessary. Cooperation Assist in planning with the Licensed School Nurse for services of students with special needs. Assist with Special Ed evaluations. Develop Individual Health Plans under LSN supervision. Function as a team member of Health Services; attend IEP meetings as Health Services, TAT, or SST representative. Record Keeping Responsible for health records including emergency card, pupil health records, physicals, and medical documentation. Maintain data logs per Lead Nurses request and compile year‑end report. Accurately document all duties performed and any other necessary reasons. Maintain confidential health files for students; restrict access to staff with "need to know." Maintain third‑party billing documentation. Assist with school screenings under LSN supervision. Comply with procedures for communicable diseases. Reduce spread of communicable diseases by collecting student immunization data. Delegated Functions Administer medications, simple & complex, under LSN direction and school policy. Support the technical health needs of students as directed and delegated by a Licensed School Nurse. Other Duties Assigned by Building Principal or Special Education Director or supervising LSN or Lead Nurses. Provide selected Health Care trainings. Participate in local time studies. Qualifications Current licensing by the Minnesota Board of Nursing as an LPN or RN. Ability to interact positively with all ages of people. Current CPR certification. Current First Aid certification. Ability to work within the scope and practice of the position. Skills/experience in Windows-based computer software. Prompt, regular and reliable attendance. Excellent communication with students, parents, co‑workers, supervisors, and community. Demonstrated appreciation of diversity. No written reprimand or higher within the past 12 months. Not on a Performance Improvement Plan. Must take part in a standardized interview process conducted by HR and the Department/Building Administration; score 70% required.
