Job Duties
Essential duties and responsibilities include:
- Performs maintenance worker duties when not acting as a heavy equipment operator.
- Operates at least five (5) of the following: wheeled and tracked vehicles over ten tons, loader over five (5) tons, excavators, vacuum truck, snowplow, road grader, backhoe, street broom, stationary grapple crane, road mixer, beach tractors, vibratory roller, sanitizer, paver, sludge spreading equipment, tractor and tanker and other similar types of equipment. Also, operates small equipment such as pumps, saws and lasers.
- Performs road maintenance, grading and paving, installs underground utility systems such as water mains and services, storm drains, sewer mains and does repairs on same.
- Performs snow removal, demolition projects, etc.
- Performs preventative maintenance on all equipment used.
- May be required to perform manual work such as, but not limited to, digging ditches, operating equipment of less weight, to perform lower-level job progression, and to periodically supervise a small crew.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Qualifications to perform this job successfully include:
HEO I: Minimum one (1) year of driving experience with Valid CDL commercial class "B" driver's license with endorsement for "Air Brakes". Must have current DOT physical card and ability to pass all mandated alcohol/drug tests. Must have one (1) year of satisfactory paid employment in the operation of automotive equipment, trucks, or equipment used in this position. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred. Hazard material and Tankers endorsement preferred.

Supplemental Information
Language skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine maintenance reports and brief correspondence. Ability to speak communicate with the general public and employees.
Reasoning ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Other skills and abilities: Ability to pass a physical examination.
Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, hear and smell. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Work environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
