Unit: School of Medicine Department: Pediatrics Mission or Goal of Unit: The Division of PediatricEndocrinology and Metabolism at the Virginia CommonwealthUniversity (VCU), Children’s Hospital of Richmond (CHoR) isrecruiting an established and funded investigator to assume theChief of the Division. The Division manages the Center forEndocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, the region’s mostcomprehensive program for children with diabetes and otherendocrine disorders, as well as the Healthy Lifestyles Center, theregion’s most comprehensive pediatric obesity treatment andresearch center. The division offers medical care, clinical trials,medical nutrition therapy, psychological support, education, andsupport groups. Division faculty have a robust research portfolio,which includes both extramurally-funded research and industrysponsored clinical trials, making the division a leader inadvancing obesity and diabetes-related research. The successfulcandidate must be board certified in pediatric endocrinology, andeligible for appointment at the Associate or Professor level.Pediatric Endocrinology plays an integral role in the Department ofPediatrics' educational programs (medical students, residents,fellows and ancillary staff) and research development. Chief Purpose of this Position in Support of Above Mission orGoal: The Children’s Hospital of Richmond (CHoR) at VirginiaCommonwealth University is currently seeking an academic facultymember to serve as the Chief of the Division of PediatricEndocrinology. The Division Chief Pediatric Endocrinology isappointed by and reports directly to the Chair of Pediatrics, worksclosely with other Division Chiefs and Vice Chairs in theDepartment and CHoR. The Chief will serve as the administrativehead of the Division of Endocrinology, fostering a culture ofexcellence and clinical care. The Chief will be responsible for thestrategic planning and day-to-day outcomes of the division, andwill provide a mix of: direct clinical care; clinicaladministrative and QA/QI activities; didactic and bedside teachingfor students, residents and fellows; and mentorship and careerdevelopment for members of the division. The Chief will have astrong research initiative, and will be expected to sustain anationally-recognized research program. The Chief is responsible infostering a collegial culture amongst the faculty and supportingtheir mentorship and career development. Responsibilities: Teaching: The Chief will have teaching responsibilitiesin the area of Pediatric Endocrinology and provide teaching andmentorship to medical students, residents, chief residents, andfellows when applicable. The Division has fellowship programs inPediatric Endocrinology and Obesity Medicine. In addition, theDivision Chief of Pediatric Endocrinology oversees the scholarlyactivity of the pediatric endocrinology faculty that includesprovision of education and mentorship to trainees. Service: The Division Chief of Pediatric Endocrinologywill serve on hospital or departmental (CHoR or VCUH) committeeswhen appropriate, and engage in professional activities throughjournal review, conference presentations and national organizationcommittee work. The Division Chief of Pediatric Endocrinology leadscollaborative efforts within CHoR and the VCU Health (VCUH) systemto ensure that the highest quality patient care if provided in aprofessional, culturally competent manner, partnering withleadership to ensure this extends throughout the health systemswith mindfulness toward resource allocation and healthcareexpenditures. Clinical: The physician will provide clinical service asa Pediatric Endocrinologist for the Department of Pediatrics ofCHoR based at CHoR. Will work the requisite number of in hospitaldays, evenings, weekends and provide off site/home call asnecessary to maintain clinical coverage of the pediatricendocrinology outpatient and inpatient services. Administrative: The Physician will take on administrative duties associatedwith the role including: Attendance and participation at division staff and providermeetings Attendance and participation at fellowship conferences Participation in fellowship interview process Attendance at department faculty meetings Attendance at VCU School of Medicine faculty meetings The Division Chief will take on further administrative dutiesassociated with the role including: Attendance and participation at Pediatric Division Chiefsmeetings (2 per month) Coordination of resources with Pediatric Nursing and AmbulatoryCare Collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) CHoR andassociate CMOs CHoR to align clinical services of CHoR at VCU Collaboration with Vice Chair of Education, Residency ProgramDirector(s) and Medical School Pediatric Clerkship Directors atCHoR to align academic missions with ACUGME and ACGME learnerswithin CHoR at VCU Foster collaboration with and outreach to pediatricpractitioners in the Metro Richmond Region and Commonwealth ofVirginia, ensuring seamless care coordination Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications Candidates must be board certified in pediatrics Candidates must be board certified in PediatricEndocrinology All candidates must be eligible for medical licensure inVirginia Active Drug Enforcement Agency licensure Demonstrated clinical experience in pediatricendocrinology Demonstrated leadership experience or program development inpediatric endocrinology Eligible for an appointment at the rank of Associate Professoror Professor level in Pediatrics Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment ofrespect, professionalism, and civility with a population offaculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences,or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU Preferred Qualifications Prior quality improvement initiative development Completion of a medical leadership curriculum program Research focus within pediatric endocrinology or obesitymedicine Salary Range: Commensurate Benefits : All full-time university staff are eligible forVCU’s robust benefits package that includes comprehensive health benefits, paid annualand holiday leave granted up front, generous tuition benefits,retirement planning and savings options, tax-deferred annuity andcash match programs, employee discounts, well-being resources,abundant opportunities for career development and advancement, andmore.
